Can't connect to desktop manager I have desktop 4.5 and I am trying to upgrade the OS to 4.5 from 4.2 I have read all of the posts and downloaded everything I was supposed to but now the desktop manager shows disconnected and won't find the update. Have I done something wrong? does someone have a solution for this? Thanks |
It finally connected but it did not prompt me to install the new OS. any suggestions? |
Wirelessly posted (BB 8330) Are you running Vista on your PC. If so delete the OS and try right clicking on it an Run as Administrator. |
I am running vista. do you mean delete the folder in the C drive or do I have to delete it from the phone. if so how? Thanks for your response Jason |
Wirelessly posted (BB 8330) Just delete if from the pc using add remove programs. And instead of double clicking it to run just right click and run as admin. |
I deleted and installed as administrator. but now I can't get it from the PC to the BB. What do you suggest? |
I also am having a similar problem. I have installed desktop manager 4.5 and I'm using vista. When I open the desktop manager in the bottom left corner it show device connected as none. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Thanks!! |
What do you mean "now I can't get it from the PC to the BB"--what are you trying to move from the PC to the BB? If you are still trying to upgrade the BlackBerry OS on your 8320, read this initial post and follow the directions exctly as posted: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html |
Hey Jsanders I have a 8330 and after the desktop was installed it won't connect to the phone. Any ideas? |
Try first, rebooting both the PC and the BB, then reconnect and try again. |
I rebooted both including a battery pull on the phone and it still wont connect. |
@stump 1.)make sure you are using a good usb port on your pc and NOT a usb hub. 2.)make sure the cable you are using is good. if those dont work 3.)try all this on a different pc. |
The ports are working because I can update and access my palm from the same port although different cable. When I first connect the blackberry the charging symbol come on next to the battery icon and stays there for about 2-4 seconds then goes away. Is there a usb driver application that needs to be installed or is the desktop manager cover everything. Thanks again for you help. |
For me, installing Desktop Manager took care of everything. Are you able to see the BB in windows explorer as a drive? |

Explorer is the technical name of the app you call "My computer". When I plug in my BB, under my computer I see Floppy drive A: local Disk C: DVD D: Blackberry E: |
no the BB does not show up. I guess I will uninstall the desktop and reinstall it and see what happens. |
Something I forgot to mention... Important(not sure)... I am using XP not Vista. I remember the first time I plugged in my BB after installing DM, there was some activity going on in the windows systray(lower right screen). During this activity, I believe it was installing drivers and such. It truly sounds like your having either driver issues or usb issues. I know you mentioned above "The ports are working". But you never really said if you are using a usb hub. |

well thanks for all the info everyone but I just uninstalled and reinstalled desktop manager and it's still a no go.. I don't know what to do at this point. I called verizon to speak to a BB tech and he was reading posts off this site and another one:? Should I try installing a previous version of the desk top manager? I don't see why that would work but I don't know what else to do. |
