Default Restore just certain parts of a backup?

Is there a way to restore just the saved sms/mms messages from a back-up file to my Curve? I don't want everything from a back-up file restored, just the messages.

From desktop manager; backup/restore>advanced. Open your backup file in the left panel, and select which component(s) you want.

Every time I do that it overwrites the existing messages on the phone. I don't want to do that, I want to restore without overwriting the current saved messages

Well then it's working as designed. You cannot (yet) merge backed up data with existing data.
