Default When will OS 4.6 be available for 83** series?

Title says it all - is there any indication as to when the OS 4.6 software will be available for the Curve?

To be honest, much as with the iPhone 3G and 2.0 software, I'm more interested in the OS upgrades than I am in the new berry itself (at least until the Javelin comes out...).

I am probably wrong. But I think 4.5 is the limit for the 83xx series.

I would tenf to agree. The 9xxx series has more memory, uses a much faster processor and has nearly double the screen res. I'd think that 4.6 was written to make use of those and could not run adequately on the older series. Perhaps RIM should have named 5.0.

4.5 hasn't even officially released across all US carriers yet. What is it you're hoping 4.6 will do for you?

Is this just a hunch or are you basing this on any particular source(s)?

The same thing it's doing for everyone who has a Blackberry Bold. Improved UI, better functionality, new tweaks, better implementation of about a half dozen things that would make life a little easier.

Do you have a Bold? What are you basing this off? Of course it will have some improvements, but what's wrong with 4.5? Not to mention, limited availability of 4.6 is a selling point for the newer devices...

As jibi said the 8xxx series might make the 4.6 but seems 5.0 is looking better than 4.6 being on 8xxx serieS

I've used the Bold on several occasions and have spent sufficient time with it to realise that it offers a number of software improvements under the hood that make it a worthwhile upgrade from 4.5 which I am currently using. Nothing is "wrong" with 4.5 but 4.6 offers more. To use one well publicised trivial example, the clock application and bedtime mode would be appreciated. It's the little things. How well it will run on my Curve's slower processor (if they were to make a Curve version) is another matter - I wouldn't want to sacrifice speed for it, which is why I look forward to the Javelin.

5.0 for the 8xxx devices is already being tested at RIM. I'm not aware of any 4.6 testing at RIM for the 8xxx devices.

Thanks. Do you have any idea of when it might filter out to Joe Public?

5.0, wow. Just about every company I know of would essentially abandon the older device once a newer one came out. Though this is NICE to hear about RIM, I won't hold my breath.
