Default Looks like I lost my Curve today in San Antonio, TX - 08-27-2008, 07:54 PM

Im sick about it.

Thought I read somewhere that RIM could "kill" the phone so as its not useful.
I just happen to have my code unlocked at the time.
Of course.

TMobile says they can "suspend" it but I want it dead for all the info I have on it.

Is the "killing" do-able?

Thanks.

Did you have it password protected? Or on a BES??

Also, when I call my number it just rings to infinity and beyond when I had my voice mail set up on it and it worked earlier in the morning..

Anyone know what that means?

I don't know if it can be done through RIM. Have you talked to Tmobile BlackBerry support?

Wirelessly posted (off to see the wizard)

If not attached to BES or password protected or no app like roblok there isn't much that can be done about the info on it

...My condolences. >_<

You can only take the usual precautions now, like change passwords, cancel the phone number, cancel any card information you might have on it (*shrug*) and pray you dropped it from a great height and smashed it or some freakish saint returns it to you.

Make sure you delete all the email accounts in BIS and remove the PIN and IMEI while you are at it.

1st call should be to T-mo to cancel the phone. hopefully you didn't have any bank/ccard info in there. If so, I would freeze or cancel.

I just installed roblock on my vzw curve. know its more for phones with sim cards, but I want every assurance to be able to delete what I can.

So, I talked to T-Mo and they said it has not been used as of yet.
As mentioned since it is BIS, not much can be done. But yes, I did cancel all e-mail to it thru T-Mobile and changed all passwords associated with that I could think of.
Fortunately I did back it up before I left home.
And yes, I am hoping some "freakish saint", ha, will answer the damn thing so I can get it back.
Time to get another Curve it looks like.

Well, the 8320 thru T-Mo does have the SIM card but I had never heard of that app before now. I will check into it for my next one.

Well, since you have canceled the service this won't work, but my first suggestion would be to email and/or text the phone a message with a "REWARD - LOST PHONE" message in the email and SMS folders... probably too late now.

Good luck.

are there some sort of riverwalk police or riverwalk authority that might have a lost and found? Could it be in a bush or maybe taken a swim? if its the latter, they empty the RW once a year and fish out all the drunks and cameras. maybe they will find your phone then.

Last part is me just being a smartass, but I wonder if there is a lost and found. There are some "freakish folks" that occassionally return cell phones. I have 3 to my credit so far. Seattle, Colorado, and DC.

Good luck!

Exclamation Just a tip - 08-28-2008, 02:44 AM

Just a tip, if you would of had a program called samecell on your phone you could of gone on to the internet and located your phone within 1 mile from where it is and would have given you an idea as to where it might be. never the less something to look in to if you replace your blackberry. But I wish the best for you.

I hope im not in violation for this but if I am please let me know and I'll remove this last part.

To install on your blackberry go to SameCell Applications

To locate a phone to 1 to 3 miles to go
SameCell: Locate Me Login
Then enter your email address and password

I hate that most things are found out "after" the fact. Fortunately, I found out about this before the fact...

I use an app called "Berry Locator". It cost $4.99 (Handmark) and works like this:
If you lose or misplace your Curve, you send yourself an email with whatever passphrase you configure the app with. Your Curve, whether on or off, will buzz and sound an annoying alarm repeatedly. Additionally, once activated, you will receive an email giving you the GPS location of the phone when the email was sent (8310 and up), providing you with a real-time location of the phone.

Well worth a one-time fee of $4.99.

Hope this helps, and sorry for your loss.

Exclamation Reading about other blackberry locators - 08-29-2008, 05:05 AM

Been reading about other software's that help you locate your blackberry that was sujested on this site.

Berry Locator:
For a Price of $6.95 will locate your blackberry but I can't imagine that for the device to be doing the following Loud Sound Alert + Vibrate + Flash Screen + Flashing LED for easy retrieval all at once can be good for your battery life, I would assume that it would kill your battery fast and even faster if your battery was already low when you set the phone off to locate it. How ever this company does offer a demo version of the software so you can try before you buy and would like for others to try it and give us your input on how you feel about the software. You can read about the software, download the paid version and download the demo version from the following link. By the way this is " NOT " a beta.

Berry Locator : Retrieve your lost BlackBerry by just sending an email

Just noticed that the demo expires in 1 day 23 hours and the alarm Duration maybe set for 15 Seconds, 30 Seconds, 1 Minute or 3 Minutes having said that it may not be a problem with the battery life.

InstaMapper:
Seem's to be free but reading off there own forum there has been an issue about it draining the battery when off the charger for 3 hours.

" I used InstaMapper during a car trip in California. Had my phone plugged into a car charger and was shocked to find that my battery drained when we stopped for lunch after three hours. Is this typical? That is, is the drain from the app greater than the charge rate from these devices? Has anyone had better results with their in-car charger? "

and only seems to allow you to track a person or vehicle online in real time using a GPS-enabled cell phone. Not for locating your phone when lost and per law the person has to know you are tracking them. You can read more about InstaMapper including signing up with the service at the following link. would like to get input on this as well.

InstaMapper - Free Real-Time GPS Tracking

I found this one to be challenging to use and was useless.

I still like SameCell because it give you a map where your phone is (example. if you had lost your bb in a park it will put a mark on the map at the park nearest to where it is. But I still may add berry Locator and loved the red & blue indicator flashing light I only wish that I could be able to change the text indicator light from red to blue. Oh well can't have everything.

My heart goes out to you. I'd be sick if I lost my Curve. But I have Roblock ($9) and FindIt ($5) installed, so I know that even if the unit was lost, I'd be able to wipe all data and be a nuisance to the finder if I did not hear back in a hurry.

coldconfession13, I am sorry you lost your phone and hope for a message soon that you recovered it.

I am thankful for all people that has come forward with all these suggestions, I am looking into them now to secure my phone, and also re-enabling my password.

On a happier note....thanks to the fact that I lost my Razr, I found myself finally learning about blackberries, finding this fantastic forum and joining in the long waiting for the curve coming to T-Mobile...and thanks to that loss I am now a proud owner (and addict) of my Blackberry Curve

been reading about Roblock and found the following:

(1)
OS requirements for RobLock:
OS: WinMobile
So I'm not sure if this means that it would replace the current OS that is installed on the device or if loading this os on your device would cause a problem, Unsure if this os is compatible with the blackberry.

(2)
Compatible devices: http://roblock.en.softonic.com/windo...atible-devices
Listed devices are Asus, HP, HTC, i-mate, Motorola, 02, Palm, Q-Tek & Samsung.
NO WHERE'S IS BLACKBERRY LISTED so it may cause problems with Blackberry users.
