Default Still pics are distorted, but video is fine. What gives?

Please Login to Remove!

One day I went to take a pic and the view on the screen was "solarized/posterized" see thumbnail of what I mean. The camera will take the picture even though it looks awful, but when I go to view, it only shows the generic sky thumbnail. When I click the thumbnail to open, it gives me a black screen with a red x in the corner.

I figured I probably ruined the camera a while back when I dropped the phone, but I upgraded to 4.5 recently and when I record video the images are fine like there isn't anything wrong. I don't understand how the camera for still pictures is messed up, but for video work fine. Anyone have a clue as to what might be happening?

There was an issue of white balance in 4.5 so just make sure you are running the latest.

As for solarized/posterized I had this problem with a Pearl. I removed the battery cover, pulled the battery and softly with a Q-Tip pressed in on the camera module (not the lens). I put it all back together and it was fixed. It seemed dropping it caused a loose connection.

Give it a try and let us know.

Thanks for the reply I have couple of questions and a comment.

1. The problem existed prior to the upgrade to 4.5
2. Could you give me more info as to what is the camera module?
3. Do you think if it was a loose connection, that it would only effect the
still pics and not the video?

I find it really weird the same camera is used for both stills and video but only one is affected. Thanks again for the tip.

The 4.5 co,ment was just an FYI, I did see you said it happened prior.

Push in on the area around the lens not on the lens.

I can not say why one would work and the other does not. Mine was on an 8100 which can not do video.

WHAT ON EARTH?!?!!? that looks like a cartoon or something!!! you need to take it to AT&T and have them look at it if troydbrown's suggestions don't work. Honestly, you could put that on scooby doo! there is something wrong with it. definitley.

Well guys, no luck with pushing the camera. I also went through all of the settings and tried each one to make sure it wasn't that and nothing. I would take it in, but I don't have insurance on the phone and the 1year warranty expired earlier this year.
If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Im game to try anything to see if it will work. Thanks again

At this point I would have to say it is hardware related. Sorry
