Hi Everybody,

First let me go ahead and introduce myself. My Name is Mike and i am form maryland, i have a Verizon 8330 and this is my first smart phone. i bought this phone for the entertainment factor first and the email capabilities last unlike i am sure some to most you the rest of you. i do not have experience with the BB market so i will be learning as i go and good thing for me i know how to read so i will be making quick use of the search button.

Its a pleasure to be here and be apart of this informative community.

now if you dont mind and before some one chimes in with "this post should be in the new member forum" let me get down to my first question.

i am looking into getting a Sony MEX-BT2600 in dash head unit with built in bluetooth, i have contacted Best buy, crutchfild, and last but not least sony about connectivity... the unit is said to support A2DP profiles so i would figure that it would work with the 8330 to stream audio, however when i asked said vendors-manufacturer no one could shoot me a strait answer, sony even when as far as to say that it should work but they do not grantee it will work. on sony's list of supported devices under blackberry they do not list the curve they list the pearl and the 8800 series but not the curve. the 8100 pearl is said to support A2DP for stereo BT and on the listed known working devices from sony it is marked as being able to use the call features but not for streaming audio, strange right.

anyways if someone could shed some light on this subject i would be greatly appreciative

regards

Mike

Welcome, Mike from Maryland!

If they list the 8100 as working then the Curve from Verizon will support it as well. You should be fine.

your help is appreciated,

the thing that caught me strange about the assistance i received from sony was that the 8100 supposedly showed no compatibility for the music features but did show compatible for the hands free features... so i checked the feature set on the 8100 and it supports A2DP... so... one would think it should stream audio because the sony unit is supposed to offer that feature and that feature was checked off for other phones on the list that were non-blackberry.

curiouser and curiouser

so i dont know maybe it does maybe it dont

again thanks for the help

That's becqause A2DP is brand new for the 8100 with the OS 4.5 upgrade. The Curve series had it in 4.2.2 and that was the first BB OS that supported A2DP. Its a relatively new feature on the BB. That's why they don't know if it works.

I've had a Sony MEX-BT2600 since early May. It works well with my 8310. I'm still on 4.2.2.170.

The A2DP works fine. The remote control can change tracks on the BB media player, but I still have to start the player on the Curve.

Voice dialing works.

I have to yell for others to hear me at highway speed; but they sound great to me.

When I start my car, the phone pairs automatically. The Music player doesn't pair until I switch the MEX-BT2600 source to BT audio and push a button on the faceplate.

I'm very happy with my purchase.

Same here, I've a MEX-BT2600 and so far I've no complaints. It automatically pairs with my Pearl (8110 with O.S. 4.5) and streams over A2DP pretty well. Voice quality during the calls is pretty good and pretty much anything that can streamed on the pearl (except video of course) could be heard over BT2600 over A2DP stereo, including internet radio streaming (moodio.fm). What is cool is that, you can even listen to voice prompts for navigation (using amazeGPS s/w) with the music from the phone playing in the background.

I was a little skeptical before buying the unit since I have not had very good experience with Sony products, but this one has pretty much beat my expectations. It would have been perfect if I was able to transfer the address book to BT2600 so that it could display the caller name/ID on the unit display. But, thats' ok...

Good luck and welcome to the forums!!

Default thanks

you guys are awesome!!!

that is so great to know i just got the bt2600 today and am getting it installed on thursday along with some alpine sp-507 speakers in my F150

i more than appreciate the help you have shared and i am amazed with all the information here on the forum. i have to admit i was partial to the iphone but was not interested in switching carriers (verizon) not that they are so great or anything just that we have a family plan with them and its a hassle, but after searching around here i feel like i made the right choice going with the curve anyways.

again thanks for the assistance and for the welcome

regards
