Default I Think I Screwed Up-maxmem

Please Login to Remove!

I THINK I REALLY MESSED SOMETHING UP. I RECENTLY DOWNLOADED A MAXMEM APPLICATION THAT SAID IT WOULD FREE UP MY PRECIOUS BLACKBERRY MEMORY. IT REMOVE THE FOLLOWING.
1. VOICE ACTIVATED DIALING
2. REMOVED PTT
3. REMOVEDT-MO FIVES
4. REMOVED MDS
5. REMOVED SAMPLE MEDIA
6. REMOVED ALL DEFAULT THEMES
7. REMOVED TD
8. REMOVED FOREIGN RESOURCES
9. REMOVED "EXPERIMENTAL" RINGTONES
10 REMOVED RIM INTERNAL TOOLS(QUINCY, BUG REPORT, BATTERY LOG,ETC)

IM NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT ALL THIS IS BUT I DO HAVE MORE SPACE BUT THE PROBLEM NOW IS, EVERY TIME I LOAD A NEW THEME IT IS IN MY APPLICATIONS BUT NEVER APPEARS IN THE THEM MENU IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE THEME. AND I HAVE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE IT IS THE PROPER OS FOR MY BLACKBERRY. ALSO EVERY TIME I DO A BATTERY PULL, IT CHANGES MY THEME BACK TO THE DEFAULT THEME THAT THE UNIT CAME WITH. AND THE LAST PROBLEM THAT I HAVE NOTICED IS WHEN I GO TO ABOUT IN THE OPTIONS SCREEN, NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I CLICK ON IT.

IM NOT SURE WHAT I DELETED IN ORDER TO CAUSE THIS BUT WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNEW AND HOW CAN I GET IT BACK. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION.

KYLE

Kyle,

Please don't type is caps as it is taken as yelling.

If you removed the Voice Activated Dialing mudules, then you will lose the Options > About screen. It will no longer be accessible. You can get the same info by holding Alt and pressing E A C E.

Check this thread, it will go into A LOT more detail. I recommend this method over MaxMem any day as you know exactly what you are removing.

You can also reload the OS and start again. Easy to do if you can be patient.

1. Don't use MaxMem, you have so little control over what it does.

2. If you use John Clark's MOP thread, don't just remove the COD files from the java folder, instead move them to a newly created folder in the java folder named "removedCODs" then you have them to move back if you need.

The problem with themes not appearing is that you deleted the Dimension themes from your phone. Almost all of the aftermarket themes are created using the Plazmic theme builder... and all require the associated Dimension theme be installed to work. If you use the Zen themes, you NEED the Dimension Zen theme. If you use the Today-style themes, you NEED the Dimension Today theme.

Using the MaxMem app, restore the Dimension themes, update your OS again and you should be good to go.

Follow the steps in this thread to the letter and you will be fine Latest OS: 8300 4.5.0.81 / 4.5.0.55 (MultiLanguage)

Also if you wanna free up memory, follow the steps in this link http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ee-memory.html before installing the OS on your device.

Wirelessly posted

Programs like that are really intended for advanced users I think. I am not sure the OP needs to re-install the OS if his only concern is themes. As long as he reinstalls the Dimension themes he good to go. The "About" info can be had by following the above note shortcut.

Put the cod files for the themes you need back in the java folder, plug in your BB to your pc, open Desktop Manager and Appliction Loader. Run it. Even though it may appear nothing is happening, the themes should load.

I can't do a step by step since I don't know which themes you deleted. Maybe Jag does and can walk you through it?

If not, just reload the OS as suggested, which might be the easiest thing for a non-advanced user.

Good luck.

Well im sure you guys are tired of hearing from me and i feel like a real idiot. I have done the following:
1. downloaded 4.5 on to my computer.
2. backed up my BB
3. deleted the vendor.xm. file
4. pluged in BB and opened desktop manager
5. clicked on app loader.
after this i get a promp that says welcome to the app loader wizard and then a screen pops up that says device application selection that has a list of everything on my phone. I then and clicking the add button and then i am navigating through program files, common files, research in motion, shared, loader files and then i see the file
8300-v4.5.0.55_p2.7.0.68, which im assuming what i want to add. But when i click on to it, it takes me to another list of 2 files called GPRS and JAVA and then a bunch of alx programs.
I dont have a clue what to do here.
I apologize, i dont mean to sound stupid here. You all make it sound easy when you say just upgrade your OS but im not feeling i have the knowledge of all you experts. Needing a little advise please. I think im close but not quite sure.
My sincere appriciation for your time and again, my aplogies.

Without going through the install process myself, it sounds like you're trying to add the big 4.5 OS file as you would a third party app. You don't need to do that. You're just trying to add back in the modules you removed. If you don't try to add anything, it should add the missing modules by itself. Or if its a new OS, it'll update all the modules.

Add them back. Whatever you did to "remove" them, can you add them back? Did you delete them or move them to another folder?

If you deleted them, the best advice is to download 4.5 again, and install it on your BB again. Don't delete all the default themes.

And, I don't recommend deleting and removing cod files for everyone.

I just said yes to the quistion REMOVE ALL DEFAULT THEMES when i ran the max mem program. I dont know how to get them back. There is nothing in the max mem app that i see that says add your default themes back. I realize i have made a huge mistake running the max mem but am now lost on how to get the ability to change my themes. I didnt realize getting rid of themes that i didnt use, would effect ever getting any themes again.

Because it also got rid of one theme you were using, apparently.

So move on to reisntalling the OS to your PC, fresh, and install the OS again to your BB.

5. clicked on app loader.

I then and clicking the add button and then i am navigating through program files, common files, research in motion, shared, loader files and then i see the file

You don't want to use the "add" button.

Back up and start again.

Disconnect your BB from the PC.
If you still don't have the original OS *exe file on the PC, download the OS again to your PC, and install it to your PC again.
Reconnect your BB to the PC
Open Desktop Manager, if you don't get a prompt to upgrade, open App Loader and see the list of options for stuff on your BB. Do you see the themes? Make sure they are checked to load.
