the nicest thing (in my opinion) about being on a BES is contact synchronization. over the years I have built up hundreds of contacts that have phone numbers, email addresses, IM names etc. if I was ever to lose them I would be screwed. it seems there is no elegant way of doing this with BIS accounts.
I understand that google and maybe yahoo will do something like this, but that probably means you also have to setup the google or yahoo email address on your bb (right?) what if you don’t want to?
my idea is a 2 part application. one would be a tiny app that runs on the bb, and the other would be a web service. you would setup an account on the website and then install the app on your bb. every 10 minutes or so the app would look for changes to contacts and send the info to the web service to be stored. verizon has an app that does this but it doesn’t work for bb's (of course not... rim told them not to do that for bb's)
so what does everyone think? or does this already exist and I just can’t find it? |
Huh? That's a basic part of Desktop Manager that I use all the time, without any BES connection for me. I synchronize my BlackBerry to Outlook on my PC, to a separate contact list under Outlook called "BlackBerry contacts."
If you mean realtime, continuously, over the air - no, but my contacts don't change THAT much in a day that I can't plug in at night to charge, and sync then.
