anyone have a how-to on setting up multiple address books? i am using exchange with BES. my synchronization button in DM is grey'd out... wondering if i need to reset and then config it that way?

Can you have multiple address books in 4.5?

I know you can have multiple calendars.

Well I am not sure, but I just looked under Address Book Options and it shows "General Options" ............ below that is "Address Books" with what looks like a sub-directory which shows on mine just "Default". Sorta gives the impression that others are possible.

I just noticed this myself - I think it tried to dump my Outlook contacts into 2 or 3 different books, which is bad considering how many contacts I have...

On one hand, the ability to have multiple ABs would be nice - personal and business on the same device, but different books? My users would be overjoyed!

On the other, it means more complexity & management. I'm trying the new Dekstop (4.6) now, to see if it offers more options when syncing contacts.

Ultimately, I would love to be able to sync multiple address books wirelessly...

When syncing via USB you can specify additional folders. I don't recall if that works for BES wireless sync though...

We're doing it by USB now, but it's got two gotchas:

1) The sync needs to be one-way only (to the device) or else the BB will barf both address books back up into the default / primary folder, usually resulting in the company list being dumped into the private list. The next time they sync, it doubles up the number of contacts on the device, killing it. The other side of this is that because it's one way, contacts entered on the device do not cross back up, and don't get backed up unless it's done manually.

2) The users' desktop needs to be manually configured each time their profile is changed, either by logging into a new PC or getting a new PC, or getting a new device. That, and they need to actually plug it in for an hour to sync 12,000 contacts - which they are reluctant to do, resulting in current information not being on the devices. The idea of wirelessly synching to two folders would eliminate the need for manual configuration or plugin to get updated, and would hopefully allow the users to avoid the gotchas in #1.

I'm on hold with BB support now looking into this.

Please post back if support can provide a reasonable solution to this. This is a drawback to syncing contacts from Exchange PF's, and the last time I was on with support their answer was, basically, "That's the way it has to work". Doesn't seem like a very elegant solution to a system that, for the most part, works quite well...
