so are you saying that if i followed your instructions on the first post than I downloaded the older version on Desktop Manager?

Also before I do the initial installation, how can I guarentee that I downloaded the proper update of 4.5.x? or is that link correct?

I did not do the first post. However, I did follow the instructions on that post except the link for the DM software; I went to a different one. I used the first link and it was fine. It is working with my xp computer.

Default Bluetooth Auto Disable Bug... - 09-30-2008, 11:08 PM

I have gone five days without an auto-disable, since I turned that obnoxious blue LED back on.

I am about to upgrade this OS to see if that will fix the bug and let me turn it back off without losing bluetooth...

I will let y'all know something in a week or so.

Right, that is not correct for this OS 4.5

That means you didn't do the upgrade. Maybe you can recount what you did do. I can't guess.

The instructions at the top are fairly straight forward, exact, and should be followed in order. If your upgrade process did not last at least 30 minutes, you didn't upgrade.

Any clues?

I have absolutly no idea. I followed the instructions as on the first page. And no the installation or whatever it did lasted about 15 mins or so. When it asks me that there is an update, I said yes, but had the software do a backup of the phone. Has anyone else done this, or should I not even bother?

Many people have done this. Successfully.

The upgrade process would have been extremely short at 15 minutes. I don't this it did it.

Is it possible you have downloaded the file to your desktop and then not run it?

You have to unplug your BB, close the manager, and run the executable you downloaded. It will unpack some files and then when you run the manager and plug in your berry, it should prompt to upgrade.

Just a guess...

Default Latest? Greatest? - 10-01-2008, 06:24 PM

I've always been one of those types who has to have the latest greatest available when it becomes available. I was a little slow on getting to the last one (removed) and a couple day late getting to this one. but all seems well after upgrade. Thanks for the post guys.

I love my Curve.

I had to turn my stupid led on too. I haven't tested it since I downloaded the new OS. That blue light is bright at night in my car. Very distracting!

I had to go into my BB folder on my computer and delete the vendor.xml in order for the software to install, maybe people need to finish that step first.

Here's a kicker for you guys: ever since I downloaded the software, Sprint Software store doesn't recognize my device anymore and I do not have access to any of the software.

Default Unread E-mail Indicator Won't Go Away! - 10-02-2008, 10:51 AM

Uh! Disregard. I just did a soft reset of my 8330 and the unread E-mail indicator has went away. Hasn't come back since. Hopefully it stays that way.
______________________________________

Hi! I took the plunge and upgraded my Verizon 8330 to OS 4.5.101 or whatever the latest version is. Everything worked out just fine. I had to resend my service books but that wasn't a problem.

I now have HTML E-mails (I'm BIS and I have to ask for the images)! They look great and make a lot more sense than the stuff I used to get.

The only problem I've encountered is that when I delete my read E-mails, I get an indicator that pops up showing I have more unread E-mail. Right now, I just deleted 2 E-mails and now I have an indicator showing I have 2 Unread E-mails. I've checked every folder I can locate and there isn't anything unread.

It did this yesterday but I did a battery pull and it went away. I don't want to be doing a battery pull every time this comes up.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I have been thirty six hours since I upgraded the OS to 4.5 and turned the LED back off, Bluetooth on, and no automatic disable so far. I think I will wait and see if it lasts a whole week before I break out the champagne, but it at least looks promising.

Also the Docs to go / Sheets to go kicks <butt>.

Default Install Question for OS - 10-02-2008, 08:15 PM

Ok I have done these upgrades in the past and never had a problem. Figures now I would have an issue. I have followed the 1st post and downloaded the latest Desktop Manager which seems to be 4.6. I installed in and then deleted the vendor file and when I plugged in my 8330 all it would do is sync. It never even saw the upgrade.

So then I uninstalled and reinstalled the Desktop Manager and also installed the other exe file shown to hold the 4.5.0.101 software and tried again. NOTHING, the device just synced as normal.

Then I uninstalled all of it again. Downloaded the latest 4.5 Desktop Software and Installed it. Plugged in the 8330 and nothing but syncing. I uninstalled the Desktop Manager and then reinstalled again and then ran the Software exe after. Still nothing. I have deleted the vendor file after each reinstall and nothing is working.

Any idea? I haven't bricked this phone yet but I see it happening soon. Any help would be great.

I'm on Verizon and still using 4.3 on my Curve 8330.

I'm thinking about going to 4.5.101 (latest I think).

Are the video issues resolved? Will I be able to play vids from 4.3 on 4.5?

I have Smart BB installed on my machine and have been getting html email. Is that the primary difference in oS versions? If so, what might be another reason or advantage to moving to 4.5? In other words what do I have to gain?

Thanks Ladies and Gents for you thoughts,

Roll

I just ran the upgrade from 4.2.127 to the 4.5.x link available on the first page of this post. I did have an unsuccessful first attempt. 2nd attempt completed properly and my BB was showing the default Verizon theme. All my download icons were showing but I wanted to go back to my Surreal theme. Went into OPTIONS > THEMES and selected Surreal. It looked like it was loading properly - I could see the switch to the Font & Size while the "In Progress" bar was doing its thing.

Then I got a white screen saying "App Error 523" and a Reset underneath (very small font size). Now I just get that from pressing Enter even a Battery Pull. Any ideas on what to do from here? I loaded Device Manager but now it doesnt even acknowledge my phone as connected via USB.

HELP!
Chris

Surreal theme doesn't work in OS 4.5. Remove the battery and reinsert. When the hourglass comes up and begins spinning, plug in and run application loader. Remove the Surreal theme.

blackblackknight....not the best first post.

Agreed, same here. No more BT issues, although I still can't download iBerry themes lol. It says it doesn't know what BB I have anymore.

New to the forums here.

I did the upgrage from 4.3 to 4.5.0.77 on my BB 8330. I noticed that there are still no HTML emails. Everything else is working fine (if not better).

Is there an option I am missing somewhere?

Anyone know if this official .77 release is any different from the beta .77 ? Is it worth upgrading to this release from the beta?

I'm getting constant hourglasses/freezes, which I am told could be due to my media card. At risk of sounding like a complete newb, how do I reformat my media card to attempt to troubleshoot this issue?

Unplug the BB from the USB.

Reboot BOTH the BB (battery pull, re-insert) and the PC.

Do a search on the entire c: drive of the PC for "vendor'xml". Delete any instances of it.

Make SURE the USB cable is plugged to a rear USB port on the PC--not a USB hub, monitor port or front PC port.

Now, plug the BB back in. Start Desktop Manager.

Any luck?

No Luck.
I just reboot the computer and phone.
I am running Desktop Manager 4.6.
I downloaded the 4.5 os and ran the instalation on the desktop.
I then deleted the vendor'xml file.
Then I permanently deleted it from the recycle bin.
I pluged in the handheld and started the desktop manager.
Nothing happened?

My usb is pluged into the back of the computer. I have tried it in different ports. The desktop manager recognizes the device, but it does not start the update.

Anyone hear of 4.5 being released officially by Alltel yet? Just wondering because over at crackberry in the Alltel forum someone posted in a thread about 4.5 by the end of the month that they got an email from Alltel with a link to 4.5 this morning.

Slovak - why wouldn't you just check the Alltel BlackBerry download site? (which I did) only shows 4.3 there.

Would it be possible to install Documents to Go from this download without the OS upgrade? Since I am on a BES I do not want to upgrade the OS until Verizon releases their official version. Thanks!

Default Upgrade STILL NOT working - 10-07-2008, 07:09 PM

Well I will try again to see if anyone has a fix for me here. I have been trying to load this 4.5.0.101 or .77 which ever it is actually classified as and it has not been working at all.

I was on 4.5.0.5something and tryin to load this new software. I have never had an issue before and now I cant get it to work at all. I have downloaded the new 4.6 Desktop Manager and downloaded the software packet for 4.5.0.101. I uninstalled everything I had related to Blackberry and installed the 4.6 Desktop Manager everything went fine. I then installed the 4.5.0.101 software, no issues. I deleted the vendor.xml file and even removed it from the bin to be sure. I rebooted the computer and then plugged in the 8330Waited for it to fully connect and then opened Desktop Manager. The device synced and then nothing. It will not ask or tell me to upgrade. What am I doing wrong.

I have since had the device replaced going back to the stock OS at 4.3.0.127 and tried it all over again with a fresh brand new phone and still nothing.

PLEASE someone try and throw an idea out there, anything would help.

How did you do that? I have the same problem. I can't even select HTML mail as an option. Thanks a bunch,

John

By the way, this rev is a lot better than 4.5.33 that I was running. Everything is running a little more solid and there are fewer freeze-ups. In fact, none so far, but I am only one day into this rev on my Sprint 8330.
