Carrier: Cingular/AT&T
Default OS: 8330 4.5.0.101/4.5.0.77 (Multilanguage) - 09-24-2008, 04:55 PM

This is for the 8330 model, and will load on any carrier's 8330.

Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8330 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.101 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.101
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.5.0.77
  • Software Platform: 3.2.0.51
  • File name: 8330uAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel101_PL3.2.0.51_A4.5.0.77_Fas t_100.exe
  • File size: 68.06MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

**UPDATED 10/31/2008 to include Download from the Verizon website here:
BlackBerry® Software Updates Verizon Has now Pulled 4.5!

Download from the Cellular South carrier here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...C9D4DB0C6BBE45

The only difference between the Verizon version and Cellular South version is the download site. Both are multi-language versions

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 8330:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous version of this model OS: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ge-sprint.html

Thanks to Garz08 for the notification.

Nice finds on these, only if the 8830 would get some "official" love.

So now the obvious question...I've been running 4.5.0.77 (platform 3.2.0.51) for a few weeks now. Any point to installing this?

No. .77 = .77 whether official or "unreleased".

Same thing.

One problem I ran into with 4.5.0.x is that whenever I would go into BB Messenger after installing an app with DM, it would complain that I got a new device and it wanted to send everyone in my contact list my updated PIN. Of course, nothing changed, and BB Messenger would not work properly after that.

The problem was remedied by placing the 4.3 version of BB Messenger into the 4.5 directory, and it's been running smoothly since.

Does anyone know the differences between this version (4.5.0.77) and the previous one that had been posted here (4.5.0.56)? Thanks! Also, I'm very interested to know if this upgrade eliminates the "force roaming" option on the Sprint 8330 (as the previous versions of 4.5 have done).

Let's go Telus users, who is going first?!
If it works, I'll boot up vmware & XP on my mac and give it a shot.

I wish they'd fix the media player problem.

My video files (direct MP4 rips from DVD) always played perfectly in 4.3, yet always freeze up the player under 4.5, then turn the screen white when the file is done. Battery pull then becomes necessary.

Anybody else had any video problems under 4.5?

It will work with the Sprint BB 8330 (It will work with any branded 8330). You must follow the directions in the first post.

You will have to reactivate your device if you're connected to a company BES server. Meaning, you will have to ask for an enterprise activation password.

And your BES Admin will be able to tell what version you have installed.

My problem is NONE of my videos will play...

Nothing that was on the phone before... not videos recorded using the camcorder, converted videos, mms videos received.. all of them get an error..

Weird thing is, I received a couple videos from my brother (after the upgrade) and they played in my inbox... when i saved the same videos, they will not play from the media player..

Hey, guys....new to the forum and new to BB. I just got mine at the beginning of the month. I have v4.3.0.127 now...is this update required or suggested? What does it do? Please forgive my ignorance...again, I'm new to BB. I just returned from Germany (I'm in the military).

Thanks,
Tim

Anyone notice their text/sms messages freezing for a few seconds after sending each message? Just wanted to know if it was just mine after upgrading.

Not required, it's up to you. If you have an issue or glitch in your current OS that you think this might improve on, go for it.

I think the main question here is is this a major upgrade? For instance, is this the one that gives us Word to go? Any major differences between 4.5 and 4.3?

This will give you Documents To Go, as well as HTML e-mail capabilities.

you only need an activation password if youre activating ota. plug in to a desktop that has an outlook profile that connects to your company mail server and DM will activate your bb on the bes

Hello everyone! I decided to join, since I now have a 8330.
I understand the Upgrade process and how to do it. I just have a few questions.
1-Deleting the XML file allows the phone to use any carrier, right?
2-Will Verizon be able to know that I upgraded?
3-Will I lose any features on the phone or on the Verizon Network?
I guess I am just worried about after effects on what will happen, I am new to the Blackberry scene and just was not really sure about it all. Thanks for the help!

1. Deleting the XML file allows the OS to be installed on any carrier's phone.
2. Yes, but they don't care. There's nothing in the contract that says that you have to use the version of the OS it came with or their "approved" versions. That said, if you contact support about an issue, they may not support it because of the OS, but you can just downgrade back to their version and they will support that.
3. No. That same creepy "can you hear me now guy" follows me around everywhere no matter what version I'm on.

The 4.5 is a worthwhile upgrade because you get HTML e-mails, DocsToGo, and depending on if you're using it on a BES, a host of other neat features. Go for.

I'm still rockin' Beta 4.5.0.66 (90)......can anyone tell me if this is worth the upgrade because what I have now is quite stable and I have no messenger issues, no media player issues and no lag time sending sms. Thanks!

Can somebody chime in here and let us know if they get HTML emails if they are on Verizon? That seems to be the only desirable feature to me.

As you all can tell, I am kind of apprehensive-before following through on the update, I see the message on the software:
"Warning: After completing the loading operation, you must active your device wirelessly to continue to send and receive messages and use other BlackBerry services. If you do not want to..."

I don't understand this little deal here, what do they mean?

I am on BIS with Verizon.

Sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me when I "upgraded" to the previous 4.5 release that was posted here, and I ended up "downgrading" to 4.3 right away. My hope is that whenever Sprint does come around to releasing it's own version of 4.5, that it will keep the force roaming option.

I upgraded to os 4.5.0.77 in an effort to get Documents to go but after going through the lengthy process I found that it didn't even install Documents to Go. It was not even one of the options when it shows you the applications you can install on your BB. Can anyone help. I am with Bell Mobility.

Welcome to the BBForums.

Did you do any editing of the contents of the java folder? DocumentsToGo is included in this release.

I'm sorry if I sound stupid but I am new to all of this. I didn't make any changes to the file, installed it as it was when it was downloaded.

I upgraded yesterday afternoon and it took about 40 minutes total. I had to resend the service books to get HTML email and it worked as I wasn't seeing the "Enable HTML Email" in the Email settings menu. But not all images are always downloaded, you have to select "Get Images" in order to see them. I'm on a BIS with Verizon and followed all the instructions to the letter. Web surfing seems to work better too.
