I don't think mine prompted me right away. Did you click on Add/Remove Applications or whatever it was called?

Yes it does. Volume of Speakerphone and volume of Ringer.
Very strange. It sounds a little like someone puts their finger on the speaker, but it has sort of higher quality feel to it, maybe the sound drivers are different and they act up on 8300 models?

Just install according to your instruction. Quite happy so far. No problem at all.
Theme still exist. Cam VDO is ok.

Not happy with font but very minor issue.
Thanks.

Unhappy bb newbie - 11-11-2008, 08:16 AM

Hi! I have been using a bb 8320 for 3 months. Suddenly it's just turning itself on and off- white screen with hourglass for a few secs and then a red light appears for a few secs too. This happens over and over again. I have tried re-charging and flashing it with the 4.5 OS but I got this error msg: error 547 JVM failure to write...or something to that effect. Then there's a whole list of commands to choose...i just chose reset and then again went on and off thing. Can you guys help me please?

I'm having the same problem with an AT&T 8300. It won't detect the software upgrade. I tried re-installing the software on my computer and I also going to the Application Loader -> Update Software option in the desktop manager and that didn't work. I'm using the latest version of desktop manager, version 4.7. Anybody have any ideas?

Edit: Should I wipe the device using JL_Cmder and then try installing it?

Thanks for the detailed step-by-step instructions, but i deleated the vendor.xml file, and put my bb into the port and it dosent ask to update. I have done prgram update, and even the bb software update and neither works. In the latter it says that there are no new updates, even though i'm running 4.2 and I obviously want to update to 4.5

Any help would b apreciated.

I just updated the instructions in the first post for a new method of doing OS updates that hopefully will simplify the process. Go back and try again using the instructions I just posted.

Email yesterday from RIM for the NA OS 4.5. However, when I tried to use the link to upgrade. It stated I had the current OS (4.2) and asked if I wanted to be notified when updates are made.

Anyone else get that email or have any luck with the upgrade link?

Pwned! *My newbie status will not allow me to post the link*

I'm sorry if I am covering old ground, but I am very new to BB and do not want to make a mistake.

I have an 8300 on Vodafone, I am in the UK. Can I use this OS upgrade on my phone?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Regards,

Mark

yes - just follow the instructions works great. Took me about 1.5 hours to run through the whole upgrade (Lots of data to backup and restore).

Default Thanks but need help - 11-29-2008, 12:05 AM

I have a Curve 8300 (my third Blackberry) and followed all the instructions to the letter. The OS update will not load on my unit.

I deleted the vendor.xml file as directed. Instructons say "Plug in the BB
and double click on loader.exe (there is no loader.exe file) in the same location as the vendor.xml."

When I double click on application "Loader" it goes through all the software
on the unit except the OS.

I have the Sprint Curve 8300. What am I missing. Been working on this
3 hours. Thanks,

if you have file name extensions hidden it's possible that the name of the file will show up as "Loader" and be missing the .exe.

What kind of device do you have, exactly? Look in Options >About.

Your profile says 8330 from Sprint but you say Curve 8300 and you're posting in the 8300 thread. If you have an 8330 you're attempting to load the wrong OS (which is why it won't load.)

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. My unit is the 8330 not 8300. Just glad my effort did not crash the unit. Thanks again, John

I have ATT 8300 too and could not get 4.5 to DL. It says it's not yet supported. Checking ATT's site it only shows 4.2 being available and also I chatted with a ATT tech online that said 4.5 was not available for the 8300, just the 8310.

How did you get yours to work?

MoonBase: Thanks for posting this- I was wondering why my application loader for my ATT 8300 wouldn't upgrade.
Did the tech say when it would be available for the 8300?

As usual no they didn't say at all when or if it would be available for the 8300. But I might be looking at the Bold soon when my contract is up anyways. But, If I like the 4.5 update for the 8300, if/when it ever arrives, I will probably pass on the Bold. But, I am guessing that's exactly what their game plan is. Hoping enough people get tired of waiting and upgrade anyway.

Too bad there's no word of the Storm for ATT.

I'm thinking with the upgrade to 4.5 I'd keep my 8300 for a while.
I just don't want to chance screwing up my OS since I'm not techy enough to follow a bazillion steps and if ATT won't support, I'd be concerned about trying to do it myself
.

Exactly. I could use the other versions of 4.5 that are out for the 8300 but I want to be sure that ATT supports it before I use it just incase something gets screwed up. But, I already knwo people who got tired of waiting and left ATT to try to pick up a Storm. I don't hink I will be leaving ATT but the Storm does look nice. I need a keyboard though.

Hi all,
I am a newbie here who's trying to upgrade my 8320 to V 4.5 as advised. I have tried everything as instructed: delete vendor.xml, and run the loader.exe file. The application loader only prompted me whether to update or remove installed 3rd party apps and nothing happened when I clicked Next to proceed since no additional application is detected to be installed.

Strangely, this trick works on my colleagues' handsets, except mine :(
I have even tried to plug my handset and perform the upgrade from my friend's laptop, but still no luck (same result).

My current version is 4.2.2.184.

Please kindly help, and thanks in anticipation.

Regards
Edwin

Default Failing To Upgrade to 4.5.0.81 - 12-23-2008, 04:38 AM

For those following the steps and failing to upgrade, I too was failing to upgrade to 4.5.0.81 on DM4.7, Device 8300 from a previous upgrade 4.5.xyz??

I noticed that DM's Application Loader was connecting to the internet and when I disabled the internet connection I managed to upgrade (BUT HOLD ON!).

Now the problem is that every time I restart the my bb I'm now getting this error:
"Uncaught exception:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException".
My Google Maps reverted to version 2.3.1, the last version I had was 2.3.2, Something is definately going wrong.

This is a work in progress. Will try uninstall and re-install third party programs. Please kindly help if someone notices I am on on the wrong path.
