OS: 8300 v4.5.0.108/4.5.0.81 (English + EastAsia languages) -
09-25-2008, 03:38 AM
Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8300 smartphone
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.108 (EastAsia)
Package Version: 4.5.0.108
Consisting of:
* Applications: 4.5.0.81
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.78
* File name: 8300EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL2.7.0.78_A4.5.0.81_ Voda_Australia.exe
* File size: 71.88MB
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...19656875EE557C
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.
For the previous release of this OS, click here:

I found that the Doc2Go Free OTA upgrade I'd previously got wasn't migrated when I updated the OS. I had to download it again.

Ah! But there is an easy fix for that in upgrading.
Before upgrading, after installing the new OS, delete the "DocumentsToGo.alx" file from the OS install folder, located at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\**your OS name here
Then, the upgrade process will restore the DocumentsToGo on your device backup it makes during the install.

I know this may sound goofy...but if it's possible for a OS to "feel more solid," this version feels more solid than the last one I downloaded two days ago (4.5.0.69). Can't really put my finger on it...it just does. I don't do memory checking, or leak checking, I'm just talking about the responsiveness, etc.

Great upgrade so far, was running .55 before and had a memory leak, it seems to be fixed now, got a question about docs to go, i had 3 items when i first upgraded (4.5.37), sheets to go? well it's is missing when i upgaded to .55 i did'nt follow instructions on the docs to go (delete the"DocumentsToGo.alx" file) and i lost the sheets, when i put .81 on i tried the .axl file delete thing but it did'nt work, how do i get that 3rd app. back?

Open your DocumentsToGo and upgrade to the newer version (not the premium).

Thanks for the quick reply jsanders, but i don't see an option for upgrade, only check for updates and upgrade to premium and if i click on either one of them i get a window that reads (unable to connect to the selected provisioning server please try again later) got the same message when i was on .55 os but the upgrade worked when i first did it on .37.

my current build is running the Applications: 4.5.0.55
Does this version fix the loss of theme settings on reboot/battery pull?
it's the only problem i have with .55 but I might try this new version for my last on a curve. Switching to a Bold.

Upgraded my 8300 with this (.81) this afternoon, and it seems very happy so far. Could be my imagination as well, but this *does* seem more responsive than .69 did. I had been using .69 for a couple of weeks, and especially after installing the latest Viigo beta I found that the Curve was feeling *awfully* slow, even though status checks showed that I had close to 20MB available memory. Now, with .81 running, and all my apps (including Viigo beta) reinstalled, the 8300 feels "snappy" (at least by comparison to its feel on .69), and status is reporting that I have just about 20MB available...
So far, so good...

How do the ringtones sound? When I first did an upgrade I think it was .42 or something I immediately noticed that when the phone rang the tones sounded much lower than they did with the original operating system. I've seen in other postings that there were complaints of the same thing. Does anyone know if that has been fixed or if there is a workaround to getting them to sound the way they were before upgrading?
Thanks

And to answer my own question.
NOPE.
Battery Pull resets ALL SETTINGS on some themes.
Still not fixed. unless a new version comes out to fix this, i'm going to go back to a stable 4.2 until my Bold is in my hands. total BS.
as far as i can tell irresistible: the ringtones don't sound any different to me.

I upgraded to the 4.5.0.52 and want to know is this worth upgrading? I noticed the low ringtone and for rogers customers the notification on voicemail stays. Having said that those were minor things and I really enjoyed the fact that the new upgrades improved my phone overall.
I am very very dependent on my blackberry so that's why I ask......is this worth it or do I keep to the principle of ....if it isn't broken don't fix....?
Thanks in advance...look forward to hearing from you guys...

Please help!!! I just upgraded my 8300 today, but now my BB won’t come back on. It just keeps restarting and restarting with that pinwheel rolling over and over again!
Any solutions?
If not, How do I downgrade?

Nope. Nada. I've removed the battery several times and restarted, I've removed the memory card, I've removed all my 3rd party apps (Yahoo Go, Sudoku, Facebook and Google Talk) and it still does the same thing. Just goes to black, then acts like its booting, shows the pinwheel, then back to black...etc, etc

Actually, I have had that happen to me also... it is simply an odd network designator that I have had appear on my device a couple of times when my home carrier was not available. It is simply a roaming signal your device grabbed. Pulling the battery and rebooting or turning off Mobile Network and back on will normally revert it back to your home carrier signal.

Ugh, I feel like a total idiot. the JL Commander thingy isn't working. I unzipped the file, double clicked, clicked on run, and nada....then when I click on the file that pops up on my desktop, it doesn't do anything either.
When I try it the other way (with command prompt) I can't even get it to go to C:\Program files....etc. Its stuck on C:\users\**** and I don't know how to change it.
I am FRUSTRATED!!
So then I tried to wipe the handheld by typing in the wrong password/going to securty options>wipe handheld, but it reboots and STILL has the 4.5 OS, it doesn't display the 507 error

RIM is weird, I used to have OS .69, and I had about 19 MB with everything I wanted installed. I upgraded the other day and now I Have 22 megs.. Where do these megs come from!? 3 megs is a lot of code :P. I did a full restore with messages, sms, emails, everything, the works. And I turned it on .... BAM! 22 megs. I haven't restarted it in a day and a half, and I'm still at 20.5 megs. I love this upgrade. I've been looking on ebay to buy a 16 gig card since it's now supported :D HELLO DOLLY!

Does this work with DM 4.6? I just installed 4.6 and then this software, but when I run DM, it doesn't see any updates.
I'm running an earlier version of 4.5, and it's been stable, so this isn't a huge, deal, but it's surprising.

This does work with DM 4.6, i see in your profile you have the 8310 and this is the 8300 thread so don't use the 8300 os it is device specific.

I'm confused by your last post... Depending on your source for JL_Cmder and/or JavaLoader, you'll find a few files in the directory where you unzipped the package.
I have JavaLoader.exe, JL_Cmder.cmd and JL_CMDER.ico. I also copied JavaLoader.exe to an identical file named "jl.exe" -- makes it easier to invoke repeatedly and quickly, which is sometimes needed.
I happened to install these in a directory called JL_Cmder under Program Files, but this really isn't critical. Wherever you happen to have installed is where you invoke it from. Now - if you try invoking JavaLoader.exe from within Windows, a "dos box" will open and close almost too fast to see. If you want to use JavaLoader directly, you'll need to open a command prompt ("dos box"), navigate to the directory where it lives, and invoke it from there (that's the easiest way, at least). If you invoke JL_Cmder, it will open it's own "dos box" with a crude character-based menu system - and you can do this from Windows (e.g., from file explorer).
If you do a quick web search, you'll find about 46,000 hits for JL_Cmder, many with instructions telling you how to use it to wipe your Blackberry. It may take some patience -- took me several tries to grab control of the device while the bootloader was starting up when my Curve was "bricked" with a bad OS load, but it eventually worked. I suggest reading a couple of tutorials on both JavaLoader and JL_Cmder, and a few posts about people's experiences with it. Sometimes it's easy - sometimes it can be difficult, but in the end, it seems that the vast majority of situations eventually yield to the tool. It may take patience, and careful attention to the instructions, but it should work.
If you continue having problems, it would help if you could post step by step tasks that you're performing, also noting: what directory you're in, what files are in there, whether you're invoking commands on a command line or via Windows file manager (or a program icon), etc. The more detail you can post, the more likely it is that somebody here can help you quickly.

I'm a double idiot - I just posted in the wrong place, but I did get the version for the 8310, and it isn't working, but I posted in the 8310 thread. Sorry for the trouble.
