Default BB shuts down computer

Please Login to Remove!

When it's plugged in via the USB and I go to the E:/ drive, when I click the Blackberry folder the computer shuts down and restarts. I'm on 4.2.2.170 OS and the mass storage is on.

How do I get pictures off of the BB onto my computer? I thought it was a simple drag and drop...

Thanks for any and all help!

Is this a new problem or have you always had it? Assuming you do have Desktop Manager installed?

What is your Windows OS? XP or Vista?
Does the machine blue screen, or just re-start with no error message?

Things I would try:
Uninstall, reboot, then re-install Desktop Manager.
Different USB port.
Make sure you are not using a USB hub
Different USB cable.
Try another BlackBerry on your computer, or try your Blackberry on a different PC with Desktop Manager installed.

It may be a driver conflict. Have you installed any new software or hardware recently?

Wirelessly posted

Best thing I can think of is do a full system power down, in ham and cheese terms, turn computer off for 1 minute and then turn it back on.

Thanks for the great advice....

OS is XP. My desktop shuts down too quickly to see a blue screen. I tried the same procedure on my laptop....both machines have Desktop Manager. The laptop shut down and restarted too but it did show a blue screen error message but went away too quickly to read it.

I'm going to try and source a different USB cable....
Also...the only app installed as of late was Google Sync

What Service Pack do you have installed? (Right click "My Computer" and go to properties).

Also, when you plug in your BlackBerry Right click "My Computer" and go to "Manage" it will bring a "Computer Managerment" window then go to "Device Manager" does anything have an Red "X" or Yellow "!" on it?

It might also be worth it disconnect any other devices from your computer (ie. Printer, Scanner, Camera, USB Drives, etc).. Make sure you disconnect everything while the power is off after everything is disconnected turn it back on (after a few minutes) and see if it happens again.

You can probably get it from ATT's site, and you can get it at BlackBerry.com.

BlackBerry - Desktop Software - BlackBerry Desktop Software at BlackBerry.com

The lastest version is 4.6, but I've seen a few people say it has some problems. With your phone OS being 4.2, I'd get DM 4.3 or 4.5.

Yea I agree with that 4.3 was very stable and I ran into no problems at all with it.

I have a similar problem since installing Service Pack 3 for XP. I can no olnger get to my files on the BlackBerry through windows explorer. I'm sure this must be a problem with the service pack rather than with BB. I've read that it is a problem particular to 4GB cards on board the BB.
One thing I've tried until I find a proper fix is to copy the BB folder onto the desktop (picture folder for instance-without opening it up to the files!) I can then drop teh folder back into the BB. It seems to be opening the folders to view files that gives the blue screen of death.

Brand new here and I come with a similar problem. I have a 9000 series BB and an XP (service pack three) laptop with Desktop Manager installed. I have gotten the BSOD four times in two days. The first three were right after a sync via USB. The last one was without the BB plugged in. I have uninstalled the Desktop Manager, rebooted and downloaded and installed the newest version. (4.7) Problem began on the old version, which prompted the upgrade and now is back with the newest version.

To start with first uninstall DM 4.7, restart machine and install DM 4.6. When you install DM 4.6, ensure you uncheck the box "Check for updates".

I assume you have more than 1 USB port in your laptop. Try using a different USB port.
