Things I would try:
Uninstall, reboot, then re-install Desktop Manager.
Different USB port.
Make sure you are not using a USB hub
Different USB cable.
Try another BlackBerry on your computer, or try your Blackberry on a different PC with Desktop Manager installed.
It may be a driver conflict. Have you installed any new software or hardware recently?

OS is XP. My desktop shuts down too quickly to see a blue screen. I tried the same procedure on my laptop....both machines have Desktop Manager. The laptop shut down and restarted too but it did show a blue screen error message but went away too quickly to read it.
I'm going to try and source a different USB cable....
Also...the only app installed as of late was Google Sync
