Question Google Calendar Sync Won't Run

Please Login to Remove!

For several days I've been unable to sync my Google calendar to my BlackBerry Curve. There's a window that says "Starting Sync" and "Connecting to Google" with a "Hide" button. This window just sits there for several minutes. No error message appears. I'm definitely connected to the Internet, as I can access other websites. Any ideas?

Your message implies that Gsync was working before. Have you changed anything in your BB? Loaded new software, changed a setting here or there? If no, then here are suggestions, mostly no-brainers (no comments, please!) that you may have already tried; others may have more ideas.
1. Battery pull, wait several seconds, & replace
2. Confirm you can login to your Google Calendar account via the BB browser. If yes, ...
3. Give Gsync a try; assure your Gsync options are set correctly. If still no go ...
4. Uninstall Gsync and reinstall
If these don't work, something more drastic may be called for ... others will chime-in, I'm sure.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to access my Google calendar with the BB browser but still couldn't sync. I uninstalled Gsync and reinstalled it. After that I could sync, but things still don't look quite right. In Gsync I did a Sign Out, which I thought would erase everything on my BB calendar, followed by another sync. But after that I see items on my BB calendar that were there earlier but are no longer on my Google calendar on my PC. Also, I had two calendars listed in addition to my default calendar before all this (my wife's calendar and a public calendar). They are no longer listed.

I didn't try the battery pull - maybe I should have. What does this normally cause to happen?

Battery pull essentially resets the blackberry; it's like a forced reboot of a PC.

Check your options settings for Gsync; the default is: on conflicts: server wins. This means if there is a discrepancy bwt the BB and Gcal, Gcal wins and the BB item is changed. This setting tends to keep Gcal more stable, so to speak, or more like the "source" calender, to think of it another way. Did you have the conflicts set to "handheld wins"?

I don't understand why your Google Calendars were deleted, though. A "sign-out" removes the synchronized items, but it should not delete the calendars from Google Calendar. When you sign back in, the calendars should remain and they should also continue to show-up on Gcal. Also, a second Gsync option setting, namely "sync events for next: XX weeks", should limit the extent to which Gcal appointments are impacted. The only possible exception might be annual events, but non-repeating events beyond the sync window should remain untouched. The loss of your original Google calendars when you signed-out on the BB is very worrisome.

All I can suggest is trying to get 1 appointment to sync from 1 calendar to the BB. Create a new calendar on your Gcal website with 1 appointment, open Gsync on the BB and set the options to "server wins" and the events window to "4 weeks". After you sign-in to Gsync, you should see the new calendar you just added to Google Calendar; select it and sync. If the 1 appointment shows-up on the BB, you're on the right track. If not, something is not right - obviously.

If you can get 1 appt to sync, try changing the appt in the BB and re-syncing. It should change the appt in Gcal. If this works, you have another step in the right direction and can start adding more of the appointments / occasions back into Google Calendar.

Thanks for the additional suggestions. I think my problems were related to my main Google account. I can log into Google using either my everyday email address or my gmail address. I almost always use the everyday address, which I had done when using Gsync. I signed out and then back in with my gmail address, and the additional calendars showed up. The Google calendar on my PC seems to be tied to my gmail address. I'm not sure how that happened - it must have resulted from something I did when I first set up the calendar. Anyway, everything looks good at the moment. I'm using the "server wins" option and am downloading events for the max of 24 weeks.
