Safe, yes.
Upgraded, yes.

Safe, or I would not have posted it in the forums. We don't allow unofficial or non-RIM released OS posts here.

I have an AT&T Curve 8310 (crimson). Not only have I upgraded to the latest software (4.5.0.81) but I had upgraded probably within a week of receiving the Curve to what was the latest at that time which I believe was 4.5.0.37. I have upgraded to at least 3 other versions in between. Just check at the top of this forum for the latest upgrade for the 8310 and follow the instructions exactly (print them out and check off as you do it). (I always also apply John Clark's memory optimization process as well.) If you do run into problems, it can be fixed. Just be sure and check here for the answer before you panic. Only once did I have any problems upgrading and I'm assuming it was because I missed a step since I got overly confident and didn't print the instructions and check-off. Of course, I spent a couple of hours trying to fix it before I returned to the original instructions to find out that it told me what to do if the 507 error occured.

I can't emphasize enough -- the instructions here on blackberryforums.com are excellent but you do need to follow exactly. If John Clark or JSanders says it, I trust it (well, regarding BBs anyway).

Hi:
Is it recommended to uninstall the previous version(s) of the OS from the PC?

The steps to keep the Documents To Go still applies?

thanks

Wirelessly posted (Curve 8310)

I don't know if it makes a difference to remove previous versions but I did just because it's a simple step and seemed safer. Docs to go - I kept same procedure and it worked for me. Good luck!

Default OS 4.5.0.81 issue? - 10-10-2008, 03:05 AM

I upgrade OS 4.5.0.81 but can't do back-up files so I decide downgrade OS and no problem.

OS 4.5.0.81 had some bugs.

Fred, that would have nothing to do with the OS.

Mail and messages are pushed to the device. The OS cannot interrupt or slow that down. You like have a BIS issue somewhere--as a coincidence.

To my knowledge this is the only OS available. The fact it's multi language shouldn't effect you when downloading. Maybe try and download with a different browser.

Is it worth upgrading from 4.5.0.52 to 4.5.0.81? I'm a bit nervous since I just got a brand new device.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I feel a lot better about the upgrade now. I am waiting for my memory card to arrive to start the upgrade. I will post back after I have completed the process. BTW does anyone know the reason why AT&T hasn't posted the new software updates on their site? I heard they were supposed to have the upgrade months ago.

I personally think this version is better than .52, although many users might never notice a difference.
