Safe, yes.
Upgraded, yes.
Safe, or I would not have posted it in the forums. We don't allow unofficial or non-RIM released OS posts here.

I have an AT&T Curve 8310 (crimson). Not only have I upgraded to the latest software (4.5.0.81) but I had upgraded probably within a week of receiving the Curve to what was the latest at that time which I believe was 4.5.0.37. I have upgraded to at least 3 other versions in between. Just check at the top of this forum for the latest upgrade for the 8310 and follow the instructions exactly (print them out and check off as you do it). (I always also apply John Clark's memory optimization process as well.) If you do run into problems, it can be fixed. Just be sure and check here for the answer before you panic. Only once did I have any problems upgrading and I'm assuming it was because I missed a step since I got overly confident and didn't print the instructions and check-off. Of course, I spent a couple of hours trying to fix it before I returned to the original instructions to find out that it told me what to do if the 507 error occured.
I can't emphasize enough -- the instructions here on blackberryforums.com are excellent but you do need to follow exactly. If John Clark or JSanders says it, I trust it (well, regarding BBs anyway).

Hi:
Is it recommended to uninstall the previous version(s) of the OS from the PC?
The steps to keep the Documents To Go still applies?
thanks

I don't know if it makes a difference to remove previous versions but I did just because it's a simple step and seemed safer. Docs to go - I kept same procedure and it worked for me. Good luck!

OS 4.5.0.81 issue? -
10-10-2008, 03:05 AM
I upgrade OS 4.5.0.81 but can't do back-up files so I decide downgrade OS and no problem.
OS 4.5.0.81 had some bugs.

Fred, that would have nothing to do with the OS.
Mail and messages are pushed to the device. The OS cannot interrupt or slow that down. You like have a BIS issue somewhere--as a coincidence.

To my knowledge this is the only OS available. The fact it's multi language shouldn't effect you when downloading. Maybe try and download with a different browser.

Is it worth upgrading from 4.5.0.52 to 4.5.0.81? I'm a bit nervous since I just got a brand new device.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I feel a lot better about the upgrade now. I am waiting for my memory card to arrive to start the upgrade. I will post back after I have completed the process. BTW does anyone know the reason why AT&T hasn't posted the new software updates on their site? I heard they were supposed to have the upgrade months ago.

I personally think this version is better than .52, although many users might never notice a difference.

Rogers wireless Canada has released the .108 release for the 8310
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.108 (Multilanguage) (75.765 Mb)
this if from page 2 of this topic.
Troy hope you wont beat me up but seriously, i bought 8310 recently and the problem i am facing is of voice notes. I cant listen to them it keeps on buffering unless i save them first and listen.
I read in threads by upgrading this problem is solved, so tell me which is the better suited version?
The current version installed is v4.5.0.44
help will be appreciated.

Grab the Rogers one:

The East Asian one just has additional language packs you will not use.

I have installed the latest OS by rogers on xp atlast.
But nothing happens. I deleted the vendor xml file.
After plugging in device with DM, the screen goes white with 2 icons, it stayed like that for over an hour and nothing happened. More over the DM says there is no need for any upgrade.
What to do now??? Need immediate help and guidance guys.

Plug in device>Open DM>Help>About>Device Software Tab and what does it list for Device OS? Also, check for the vendor XML file one more time. A re-boot of the computer helps as well.

Thanks. It was a very easy and smooth upgrade. One question, how come I don't see "VOICE MESSAGES" any more? I see voice notes recorder. I love the voice messages, much easier to use that text messages.
Thanks.

ALOT. There has been much discussion all over this forum for a year on the improvements: HTML email, video recording, new calendar and address book views, and much more.

I followed the instructions exactly and got the 507 error. So I cancelled app loader and DM, unplugged/replugged bb into computer and restarted DM and apploader. When app loader runs, the 507 changes to the sync icons but as soon as I start the backup process it goes back to 507 and it times out connecting to the device. I did this 3 times and then I restarted the computer and tried it another 3 times. I had backed up my device before I started. So the 4th time when it asked me if I wanted to backup the device before upgrading I changed it to the "go straight to the upgrade" option and now it is working. I am on the "Load JVM and system software" specifically "erasing applications". Hopefully I don't hit any more roadblocks. I'm guessing I'm going to have to re-install all my applications since I couldn't choose the first option.
Almost forgot, when i restarted the computer i pulled out the media card from the bb just in case that was the problem. Also, I double and triple checked for the xml file and it was deleted.

Having problems with the OS upgrade. -
10-12-2008, 04:41 PM
Here is the issue I had, maybe someone has a thought to toss my way... I had to do a backup and restore when I first got the phone a year ago to unlock the vendor. no problems.
I just did the upgrade to the new OS, did the backup. I use my BB 8310 for my business so needless to say I had ALOT of info in there! So I even emailed my notes to myself. For some reason they didn't send, I thought okay I did the backup i'm covered.
I started the install, got the "error 523" got rid of the theme and went to do the process all over again. When I plugged the BB back in, the install was complete. I thought that was strange. I knew it was incomplete, so I did a battery pull and my missing browser showed up, it activated, but now my MAP is missing and my address book didnt back up. Needless to say.. so far IM a BIT YEA.
When I tried to uninstall the Garmin that shows up with this install, for some reason it turned into the browser. POOF no browser again. I reinstalled the Garmin and the browser showed up again. but my BB MAP is still gone. I looked at the app list and the OS 4.5 MAP is listed... I just can't find it. Nor can I seem to get ALL THE ADDRESSES RECOVERED!!!!
Nor can I get or have ever to get the thing to play video... no matter what I try.
I like my BB But I think I need to wipe it and start all over.

The loading process makes a full backup called loaderbackup-(10-12-2008).ipd. It usually saves it in My Documents but you may need to search your computer for *.ipd. That will search for all filed ending in .ipd. Restore that backup file.
As for BB Maps it now requires a Service book. If your carrier doesn't push the service book for BB Maps you won't be able to use it.

Is it normal for the enterprise activation to run again once the update is complete? I just updated mine and everything seems okay but the activation is at 97%.
