Default PIN & BBM - the plot thickens

Please Login to Remove!

A few days ago I reported that my buddy and I could no longer PIN and BBM although we had enjoyed the feature for many months. We tried everything under the sun including delete each others contact info and start again.

After recreating contacts and sending invitations to add contacts for BBM we found the following;

- I could add my friend as a BBM but he shows up as "busy" when I click the menu key and selected "contact info".

- However, when we click the menu key and select "My Status" it comes up as "available".

- I can send PIN and BBM to him and he can see them, but when he replies, they go nowhere because my BB thinks that his BB is "Busy".

So does anyone habe any ideas who we can break the log-jam?

Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

Have you both resent the service books for the devices and I assume you are both on BIS and not BES (maybe it was blocked there is one of you are).

Can he send you a PIN message directly through the mailbox?

I am on BES and he is on BIS. Is it possible that it got blocked without my knowing it? When I look at the firewall setting on the BB it is open.

Also, keep in mind that it is only with each other that this problem exists. I am able to PIN and BBM to all my other contacts and he is able to do the same to his contacts. There seems to be this disagreement between only our two devices.

I'll bet this makes it even more confusing....

No - I can send him a PIN and he sees it, but when he sends a PIN, my BB sees him as busy and will not accept it.

Something to try...

Get him to put in a status message, like "Hi" and change his status to "unavailable". Then once you see the change on your contact list, have him revert it to no status msg and available.

Another thing it may be, since you are on a BES is there may not be a "universal" peer-to-peer encryption key given to users on your BES. This means only PIN messaging between users on *your* BES. No outside chit-chat.

Check with your BES admin on that one.

Good suggestion - however, we were able to communicate before and I am able to use PIN and BBM with other users who are on BIS as well as another contact who is on BES but not my BES.

But I will DEFINITELY trying toggling the "available - unavailable" switch - great idea.

Thanks

Good to hear, I had a few users that were not getting PIMs from other users (both on and off our BES) so I had a "mixed issue" as soon as we set a universal p2p key and set unavail/avail, it kicked right in.

Let's hear how you made out...

Question bbm contact info says available but is really idle

This is making me crazy. I have bbm contact that is showing active for status but to get a true status I have to either ping or write a message. i want to know if he is idle or busy before I send it. What am i doing wrong?
