Default A Wipe is NOT a Wipe

Please Login to Remove!

Board,

I'm pulling my hair out here now. I'm trying to upgrade an 8310, something I've done to 15 other devices since this month. Now I have come upon one that apparently had some third party applicaiton/theme installed that caused the upgrade to DIE, I went ahead and used JL_Cmder to wipe the device, and reinstall the OS, but what I'm seeing is the device is loading up not with the default hourglass icon, but what looks to be the hourglass from the theme that was being used on the device.

Is it that a wipe is not a wipe????? The device refuses to boot, it just has the hourglass representative of the theme and nothing else happens.

I did the wipe, I'm sure and reinstalled the OS, I even got the 507 error and all that.

Help, how do I scrub this thing to get the default apps back on and start from factory???

I've not used the JL_Cmdr but have you tried to use the 'wipe handheld' from OPTIONS | SECURITY OPTIONS | GENERAL SETTINGS? It asks there if you want to wipe 3rd party apps as well.

I've used this when I have had a warranty issue and wanted to send the phone back to the carrier for replacement.

I would use it kensing65, but the device is "toast" from the upgrade so I'm getting nothing at all from the device, even after doing a "wipe" with jl_cmder and then installing the BB OS, it comes back just sitting there with the hourglass and nothing.

where can I get the 4.2 software for the 8310, I might have to downgrade and see what happens.

Getting desperate here. I'm doing the wipe over again and it just finished loading the OS and again its back at the hourglass doing nothing, just sitting there. And the program is saying that the OS was loaded successfully.

What's going on.

Let it sit... I have seen a device need up to an hour before rebooting in the final stages.

20-30 minutes can be normal. One hour is not out of the question. Let it sit, do not unplug the USB.

I too have noticed that even after a JL Commander "wipe" that the same hourglass from the previous theme is still present.

And even when you try to install an earlier operating system, it asks you if you want to "downgrade" your applications, so apparently something is still on the device, even when the 507 error is showing.

It's never caused me an issue though. So proceed as normal. The act of installing a new OS will clear out the files presently on the device.

I don't know of any other way to wipe the device.

Ok All,

All is well, thanks JSanders for insisting on patience for this one, as I had wiped the phone 5 times. I waited as JSanders suggested and all is well.

Thanks again for all the help.

I had a similar problem and was never able to get the device to reboot and load properly. I would suggest if it is still under warranty to take it back to where you purchased it or the service provider. They made me do some tests to the device and eventually after they were complete they gave me a new device.

If not under warranty then as JSanders suggest let it keep running and hopefully it works out after an hour.
