So I just got the curve and the first thing I did after the initial set up was plug it into my computer to sync everything. Well, a few seconds after I plugged it in, the Blackberry turned off, the red service light went on, and it was continuously trying to restart but could not.

Confused, I tried syncing it on my desktop. Low and behold it worked.
I got my friend to try his Blackberry on my laptop, and would you know it, it crashed his too (he did not lose anything).

Now, I called up RIM and asked them what is going on. They said I need to call my laptop manufacturer, HP, which I did and they are pointing me back to RIM.

I have looked EVERYWHERE online, posted on many forums, but no one can give me an answer. I have tried calling tech support through Sprint, RIM, and HP and they all tell me to call the other one or they cannot help. Most people have not even tried to answer or even looked at the thread. I am VERY aggravated about this issue and I just want my Blackberry to work on my computer.

I hate to bump this thread, but I really need help. The previous poster has yet to get back to me, and I am VERY aggravated about this entire situation.

I am willing to take *ANY* suggestions you have. At this point, I am willing to try anything besides a complete reinstall of Windows.

posting only that you are having errors will not relate to other such issues if experienced by others who may give you suggestion how did they solved it.

Since it also caused a problem for your friend's phone it sounds like the USB port is doing something strange. Like a short. Or maybe the USB port driver is messed up. Have you tried any other ports on the laptop?

In addition to installing Desktop Manager over again, try to install the laptop's USB drivers again. Check for updates at the HP website.

Until you get a response from one of the vendors you may to try some workarounds like trying a USB hub or using a bluetooth adapter to backup your phone.

I experienced something like that with my webcam.

I would plug it in, my laptop would crash, a blue screen would pop on saying that my hard-drive could not be located, etcetc. A ton of problems. I restarted my computer. All was well.

It happened several times. I was relentless and kept doing it till it worked. My laptop must have "crashed" fifty times while trying to get it to work.

To find out - My Firewall expired and was going haywire. It even attacked my internet and blocked Internet (and then Firefox) from working. Long story short, I disabled the firewall and everything worked fine. Then, I renewed the firewall and all was well.

Play around with your firewall settings, perhaps?

Anyway, my laptop is an HP Pavilion 6000 with Windows XP MCE.
My desktop where it works is XP Pro SP2, along with the other laptop.

There is nothing that I can find physically wrong with the USB ports as everything else I plug into it works fine.

I tried disabling my firewall but to no avail. I might toy with that more later. As for the USB drivers themselves, I have not yet updated them but I will do that when I get back to my laptop.

I probably uninstalled the desktop software and drivers and reinstalled them maybe 5 times. Probably more. I even tried different driver and software versions.
Nothing has worked.

I just ordered a bluetooth dongle to try to sync everything. I will see how that turns out.
