Default Curve vs Pearl (IM question)

On my 8100 Pearl, i was able to use AIM to chat. used it quite a bit actually.

Now, on my 8320 Curve, i can't log into any of the chat programs on the phone.

I don't have a data plan. Didn't have one with my pearl either.

What gives? Even when in a wifi network i can't chat. I thought the ability to chat via AIM would be the same as the Pearl...

can anyone solve the mystery.

AJ (8320 with wifi on t-mobile - no data plan)

As far as I know you can't use any IM program without a data plan, not sure about the WIFI, never had it.

hmmm.... i just popped in my SIM card to my old pearl. sure enough, i can IM with no problem... :(

sounds weird.......i dont think you need a data plan to use AIM or anything, i wonder what could be the issue....
