Default Problems with Curve 8310, crazy lag etc.

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, I purchased an 8310 in late December of last year. I used it until August at which point I sold it to my friend, who is still using it now.

She recently (starting just last week) has been having problems with it, she says first of all that she can barely type on it it keeps showing the hourglass symbol, and it's just running really slow and horrible and a lot of things don't work.

For example, I just called her, and she said first of all that it didn't say the name she has for me in her phonebook, it said the name that it would say on the caller ID if she didn't have me in the phonebook. And she said it didn't even ring, she just saw the red light flashing and then it said incoming call or whatever and she pushed the talk button but it wouldn't even answer the call.

And then she had to try calling me back like 5 times before it even went though. Things like that.

It had the latest software when I passed it over to her in late August, I don't really know what to do? She did battery pull several times, it doesn't help. I'm not really sure what would make it act like this? She didnt' install any software on it or anything. Would doing a wipe and then restoring the backup help? Any other tips? Thanks.

Has she done a battery pull? Might need to cleat the cached memory.

Edit: Doh...didn't see that she already tried. May be time to wipe it clean and reinstall the latest OS.

I would also check what she installed on the device since you gave it to her.

Default Check Memory, Battery

BlitzSix,
Since 30 second battery pulls don't seem to be working, you might also have her check the memory is not full (too much media maybe) and the battery doesn't have a partial short by entering ALT + CAP + H. Specifically, check that the Battery Level gets close to 100% after a full charge and that the File Free is at least several million bytes. A more thorough battery test would be checking for around 3.7 Volts with a multimeter. If you want to try to free up some memory, ALT + LGLG displays the Event Log -- select Clear Log from the Menu to wipe it clean. Also, you might ask her if she got the phone wet and didn't immediately perform a battery pull and let it dry for several days (in the manner recommended here). If none of the above help, then back-up to Desktop Manager (which she should be doing often anyway given how sketchy the operation has been), and reinstall her service provider's latest OS (probably 4.5). Optionally and if you/she is up to the more advanced task, JL_Cmder could be used to wipe the phone totally clean before the new operating system install. Hope this helps.

First thing, ask how much free memory is available.

To second what BBtrader suggested already. Remember that all emails, texts, phone logs and media(music, video) by default are stored in the device memory. If the device has a optional memory card, it is highly suggested to uses this for media storage.

Bacup everything, wipe hamdheld. Restore. I've had to do it twice because of lag. Will take 10 - 30 mins depending how much data you have to backup
