Default maps problem on 8330

When I first got this Curve, I went playing with maps and before I knew what I was doing, I goofed it up. I can't find Where Am I anywhere. I have enabled GPS and when I use the help directions, it says to be on a map, click menu, click get direction and then click Where Am I to start. That option isn't there. I only have get direction from an address or from address book.. Even under Find Location, I can't find where I am at that exact moment. So how do I get it back or find it?

What firmware version are you using? You need to be running 4.5 for the GPS to work without VZNav on Verizon.

oh, I see. No, my bb came with 4.3 on it. Do I have to backup everything I have on the Blackberry before updating? And how do I update? Do I do it thru Desktop Manager?
