Default Can u not use a blackberry without an internet connection?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a curve 8320 and i can send and receive calls and texts when connected to my internet at home. It has the UMA sign at the top. However as soon as i leave my house I cannot send or receive any messages or calls. Is this normal? as i wanted to be able to use my blackberry as a normal phone without connecting to the internet. Please help!

When you leave the house do you get connected to EDGE/GPRS??? Or does the phone display an OFF or red X up there??

The last to posters speak from the postion of "I do not like it, so there for its wrong." not from reality. Plenty of ppl that use this forum have Berrys with no internet and are happy.

BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT THE OP IS TALKING ABOUT. He is talking about his phone is NOT WORKING EVEN TO JUST MAKE CLASS. That is what he needs help with.

The real idiots are the ones who can't see the value in using a BlackBerry Device without a data plan.
Keep your ignorant similes coming. They're fun to laugh at.

Check "Manage Connections" and make sure "Mobile Network" is checked?

I hope one day we can all "MAKE CLASS" from our BlackBerry.

to the OP - there should be one of the following symbols:

X
gsm
GSM
gprs
GPRS
UMA

in the upper right hand corner. Which one is it?

When you go into Network Connections and services status (while not on UMA), is there a mobile network provider showing under Mobile Network? Just wondering if it's able to get a cell connection at all and what the strength of the signal shows.

Maybe try an OS reinstall and try someone else's SIM in your phone or your SIM in another phone to eliminate those as problems. Hopefully it's not a hardware problem.
