First thing to do is a battery pull. Remove battery while device is on, then put battery back in after 20 seconds. If that doesn't help, it could be a Saved message.
In the list of email, press the Menu button and then Search.
On the Search screen, change the 'Show' field to 'Saved Only'
Press Menu button and click Search
Do you find any messages?
