Default Has anyone found a killer skin/case/clip for the 8350i?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm new to the curve series BB's so I want to make sure I buy the right thing.

I've been told that the 8350i is a little thicker than the other 8300 series BB's? If so, has anyone found a really great skin (black) that fits the 8350i perfectly?

Also, with my 7100i I had a Krussel leather case that had a quick release clip on the back which is what I'm used to. I've already pitched the BB clip as it's way to annoying.

Has anyone found a good solution for quick release clip for the 8350i? The Krussel 8350i setup puts the whole device inside of an awkward looking leather thing that doesn't seem like it's very functional (seen from pictures only), so I'm asking here if anyone has found a really good solution for their new 8350i?

Don't want to scratch up my new berry.

Went to every Sprint store around today with no luck! I checked Radio shack and some place in the mall with phone skins and clips. I found an awesome one for A BB curve and the guy was 100% sure it would work but I insisted we make sure and try it on. It didn't fit. Hopefully they come out with something soon..

Ya..I tried 3 places today w/ no luck. Funny thing was I went to a Sprint store and they freaked out when I told them I had it...with me. THe girl said can I see it!! THought it was funny that they had not even saw one yet. I girl I work w/ has a 8330 and her case fits perfect, but she bought it in a town 50 mi away. It had no markings except for a "A" embossed in the close strap over the magnet.

my guess is the only accessories we'll see for this phone will be anything thats already out for the normal size curves... plugs, cards, etc. cases will be slow, if at all, is my guess. There just aren't enough of us out there.
I'm so bummed its soooo big.. I have a leather case from my AT&T Curve, a charging stand (used the contacts on the back of the phone), a plastic Seidio hard shell case... nothing works. It's considerably larger than the previous curves... not just thicker, but longer too.
But that's all I'll b*tch, I still love it...

I had an 8330 Curve with Sprint and the charger works with the 8350i so that was a plus. I heard that Otter makes a good carrying case. Check them out.

I just ordered the one from eBay. Seems to be a silicone cover with holes for all buttons on my 8350i. It was just 8 free ship so I'll give it a shot. I'll post some pics as soon as i get it..

Hi, I'm Erin, a Sprint-Nextel techsupport rep. Carry solutions that fit the 8350i are the Holster, Swivel Clip 3, Black Rugged Large Nylon Case, Universal PDA Pouch, and the Universal Swivel Belt Clip Kit. All of those are available on Sprint.com There are a number of 3rd party websites that offer skins for the 8350i, (such as accessorygeeks, fommy, discountcell, unlimitedcellular, ebay, bizrate, daydeal, etc.) however Sprint-Nextel has not tested and does not endorse or sell any of these skins. If you have any further questions, I would be happy to assist you.

Thanks for the great information.

I have 2 questions (since you are a tech support rep)

1. Are there any drop in chargers that will fit the 8350i? You know the kind that will charge using the 2 contacts on the back?

2. This one's a biggie. All of my PTT conversations are showing up in my message list. How do I get this to stop. Hugely annoying!!!

Thanks,

Roveer

Hi Roveer, I'd be happy to answer that for you.
Compatible chargers are Blackberry Mini External Battery Charger, Mini USB Vehicle Power Charger, Mini-USB Travel Charger. All of these connect with the USB cable (the Battery Charger charges the phone with a USB cable and a spare battery at the same time.) You can also charge it through the USB cable from your computer if you have installed Blackberry Desktop Software or Blackberry Device Manager so that the computer will recognize the device.

Direct Connect call alerts appear in your message list so that when you are in your message list, you can press alt and the s/d letter key to display the direct connect call log, and then you can reply by highlighting the call alert and pressing and holding the dc button. This is not a feature that can be turned off.

We appreciate your business, thanks for choosing Sprint-Nextel.

I ordered the available skins directly from Nextel and had them in two days. They both fit great but I don't like the thinner blue skin. For 17.99 and free shipping it was a decent deal and it includes two skins, black and blue. They can be ordered from the accessories section on the site under 8350i.

I picked up a package of these skins at our Nextel dealer. The black skin is thicker and more rugged The blue skin is thin but it's blue...

In either event they both cover the charging contacts on the back of the BB so drop in charging will not be possible. Guess I've going to have to live with one or the other.

I'm really missing my belt clip arrangement. On my 7100i I had a KRUSSELL leather case which had a quick disconnect clip on the back. It had a small belt clip with a button release. Very functional. I have not seen anything to date for the 8350 that integrates protection of the BB with a quick disconnect clip. The supplied holster is way to bulky to have on your belt and leaves your BB unprotected.

Erin,

Thanks so much for your reply.

As for the charging I was hoping for something that was "drop in" like BB has for the 8300 series BB's. I tried the one for the "curve" but our BB is thicker and does not fit. Of course once you put a skin on a BB you lose access to the contacts on the back of the BB so the point is somewhat moot.

On the other topic. As far as the direct connect messages, I'm noticing that they only show up for some DC users but not all, and they are VERY ANNOYING. After an DC conversation there will be 8-9+ of them in my inbox pushing my actual email all the way off the screen. This is not something I had to contend with on my 7100i and have to consider it a BUG if it can't be turned off. Please see my other post:

PTT showing up in my msg list. How do I stop it.

Many others are fuming over this as well.

The person that is DC'ing you has it setup to auto send info on DC calls, this phone doesnt ignore it. I had to go in and disable the feature on her phone and that stopped happening. If you go into Phone/Options/Call Logging. and set that to "None" that should stop DC's from showing up in your messages folder.

Muff....it doesn't. Mine has been set like that for a week and it still shows up. I've been told/read that it cannot be a feature that can be turned off.

I find this totally unacceptable. Let's continue this in my thread related to PTT showing up in message list (link above). I can't expect to control the settings on other people's phones, I never had this problem on my other BB so I don't accept forced options that can't be controlled. RIM will have to fix this with a OS update. The other morning I had so many of these entries that it had scrolled all of my email off the screen. This is not useful in any such way.

I visited the site and clicked on 8350 and all of the options were generic to the "curve". If that is their position many customers will be dissapointed as our phones or fatter and taller making most accessories useless. Even the screen protector was generic which would not properly fit the 8350i.

These accessories are going to be custom for the 8350i and will take some time to come to market. Buy generic "curve" accessories and you may not be able to use them. Caveat emptor.
