Default Latest OS: 8300 v4.5.0.150/4.5.0.108 (Multilanguage) - 12-26-2008, 10:58 PM

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.150 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.150
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.108
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.89
* File name: 8300M_PBr4.5.0_rel150_PL2.7.0.89_A4.5.0.108_Turkce ll.exe
* File size: 75.3MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E89D7118A344E8

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Question Loader.exe works although DM couldn't "see" update... - 12-27-2008, 10:13 PM

Is it me, or have the OS update functions changed somewhat between 4.5.0.102 and 108? As I recall, up through version .102, I could install the OS update on my PC, delete the vendor.xml, run desktop manager, and the app loader it would invoke would immediately recognize the availability of an OS update, offer it, and then update my 8300.

Now it no longer seems to work that way. I first tried this using my old installation of desktop manager 4.6. My Curve (8300) has 4.5.0.102 installed, and I had installed 4.5.0.108 to my PC and deleted the vendor.xml file, as I always do. I fired up desktop manager v4.6, and checked for device updates, blinked once, and went back to the main screen without offering to update the device. First time I've seen this.

So - I uninstalled 4.6, installed 4.7, then went and re-installed the 4.5.0.108 OS to my PC, and once again deleted vendor.xml. Still no joy on running desktop manager -- it simply didn't see the OS update for the 8300.

I re-read the first post in the thread and noted the recommendation to run "loader.exe". I did this, it saw the OS update, and is, in fact, running as I type this.

My question is: if loader.exe sees the update and happily updates my 8300, why will Desktop Manager 4.7 not see the update as well and offer to install it to my 8300?

- Jon

Thank you -- I should have found this myself -- I appreciate the link. That makes sense: seems to be an extension of the overall plan to provide OTA updates, automatically determine which devices and vendors get which updates, etc.

All seems to be working now. Thanks again,
Jon
