Default Tried to upgrade to 4.5 for ATT Curve 8310 and now I wish I had left it alone :*(

Please Login to Remove!

Had downloaded and installed DM 4.7 and the latest upgrade for the 8310 to my PC which runs on Windows 7.

1. Was prompted by Desktop Manager to upgrade, so I did. It got stuck at "Load JVM and system software" and would not get out of it.

2. Tried to wipe using Jl_Cmder but it would not connect.

3. Tried Command Prompt and got as far as connecting with the AppLoader but, again, it's stuck at "Load JVM and system software" with zero progress on the status bar.

Multiple retries will not work. Nor would taking out and replacing battery, nor attempting the whole thing with the battery out.

Since step 1, the phone has been a blank dead screen.

I checked the forums for similar threads but they all point to Jl_Cmder and opening AppLoader via Command Prompt, neither of which have helped.

Do I need to replace my phone?!

I had this happen on my 8330. If you start the updater, have it ready to check for device and then make sure your BBerry is plugged in and hit the power. It should catch it as it turns on. and then ask you to continue the upgrade. I may be missing some steps but this is the best I can remember. In my case it was caused by a very loose USB cable!

People with Vista have issues with updating, I know 7 is in beta, that may be the issue. Do you have an XP machine you can try this all on, or do you have your PC set up to dual boot?

yes an XP machine and do not use DM 4.7. Use an earlier version. I had revert back to 4.6.

Thanks for the quick responses, guys!

mastermind763: Sorry for my ignorance, but I think you've lost me. Hitting the power doesn't seem necessary, nor does it seem to do anything, once I plug in the device while running AppLoader. I just hit 'next' and it has me choose apps. Could you elaborate? Sorry again.

ctibbsaz and zwire: I think my boyfriend's PC is set up for dual boot. I'll have him install DM 4.6 instead and report back to you guys afterward.

Update:

You guys were right about Windows 7 being the culprit. We tried this on the boyfriend's PC and everything worked out. Thanks again!!

4.7 works great for me, but if others have had issues with it, then maybe it's best to downgrade in your circumstance

No problem, enjoy the new update, I have Vista and 7 on another machine and never use them for anything blackberry related.
