Default water damage indicators?? help!

Please Login to Remove!

the vibrate profile on my blackberry 8310 has completely stopped working and the trackball seems to be stuffing up abit aswell when i try to scroll downwards. I've had this phone for about 11 months and am still eligible for a replacement under the warranty. but when i pulled out the battery to have a look, it was pink with darker pink x's on it.

I've been told this indicates water damage. I have never gotten my phone wet since I bought it except for the occasional droplets of rain on the screen and im wondering if this will void my warranty.

there is a little white square inside the phone that im guessing is another water indicator. can someone confirm this?

Is the sticker you refer to ON your battery or the white sticker within the housing of your BB?

The red XXXs on the battery sticker are normal.

The white sticker on your housing is the moisture indicator for the BB.

there is one on the bottom of my battery that is pink with red x's open it and there is also a white square in the actual phone unit near the sim card holder.

also, i purchased it from a kind - of dodgy online store who gave me a tax invoice with no serial number on it. the site was phoneshop.com.au

The website is now gone and i cant get through on their phone to give me a receipt with the number on it. Here in australia, the repair centre requires a receipt with the serial number. am i doomed? has anyone had a similar experience?

it doesn't sound like water damage to me.

Your trackball housing is likely dirty, just press firmly and scroll downward in the direction it does not want to move to clear it. You can also wipe it with a SLIGHTLY damp alcohol wipe or Qtip... very slight alcohol on it.

For the vibrate, I don't know... pull the battery and reboot and test again.

JSanders is right. My trackball got stuck after eating an orange while texting. I'd bet $500 the sugary, sticky juice was on my scrolling thumb. Hehe

I paniced, but then started scrolling like a madman. In the direction of the stick, the other way, diagonally - for a LONG time while watching tv. After a while, trackball was 100%. Oh, I also did just gently touch the trackball with a Q-Tip w/rubbing alcohol is a couple spots too.

Oh, one more thing. Double check in your current PROFILE: you make have vibrate set but make sure your VOLUME isn't set to mute.
