8310 turns off once I add SIM card
Someone gave me a Curve which I was hoping to use as a backup (mostly for taking pictures though) to my 8820. The person told me that he was having problems with it rebooting so I figured I'd give it a crack.
I wiped the OS, loaded the newest 4.5.124, and everything seems fine. Was even able to sync it up with my Outlook. By all looks of it, the phone works perfectly UNTIL I put in my SIM card.
The phone registers on the network but as soon as anything is done on the Curve the device shuts off.
The SIM card works perfectly in my 8820. And if I don't put a SIM into the Curve, the device will stay running for days without any problem.
Am I looking at a bricked unit? I know it seems so but figured I'd run this by everyone before throwing it in a drawer for parts. Does blackberry (or AT&T) offer any type of repair/exchange program?
Thanks in advance.
The phone is covered under a 1 year warranty from RIM, so if it's less than a year old, get it swapped out at your local AT&T store.
Failing that, you could go to AT&T and request a new SIM card. It won't cost you anything, but it also might not have any effect either. I've never seen the problem you describe so I'm not sure what else to recommend.
I'm pretty sure it's more than a year old otherwise the person who gave it to me would have had it swapped out already.
But - how would I try that since this phone isn't attached to any contract at this point? Would I just tell them I was given a phone and ask if it is still under warranty since I would like to use as a backup?
