Question What do you think of the 8310?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,
I am looking to move over to blackberry for my mobile phone. At the mo, I am using a Nokia N96. Not happy with it, very slow and some software/firmware issues aswell.
So, I quite like the look of the 8310 with sat nav. Can anyone tell me the goods and the bads of this phone?.
Also, what extra costs am I likely to incur aswell as my usual monthly bill?.
Any opinions and advice will be gratefully recieved.
Cheers,
Mark

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

I don't know who your carrier is but in general the monthly bill for unlimited data is about $30 per month including insurance.

The 8310 is a great little phone but if the 8900 is an option for you, I'd go straight to the 8900. I loved the 8310 but the 8900 is so much better.

I loved my 8310. So far, one of the best phones I've ever owned. I only say "loved" because I'm selling it now... I'm current trying the Storm 9500 out. My 8310 is unlocked, near mint, and includes several accessories. PM me if you're interested.

actually, if you walk into a tmo dealer, u can get the unlimited data/email plan for 20 bucks (25 for plan + 400 messages)....

i used an 8310 for a year on tmo's service, never had a problem. phone was a solid performer....i sold it, but i got good money for it, which impressed me (bought for 250 last year, sold for 185 last week).

I think you mean Tmobile BIS plan is $25 (which includes 400 messages). The $20 plan is an international email only add on. I think Tmob got rid of the $20 BIS plan October of last year. But they are still the least expensive when it comes to BB data plans.

yes the plan is no longer available online, but i think a call in to tmo will get you the plan upon request...

I have an 8310 and maintain the 9000 for several people at work (figures I'd get the cheaper one - I'm just the IT guy ). If I had my choice I would get the 9000. I think google maps works better on the 9000 and it seems like the 9000 is faster in general. The screen is definitely better.

I have also messed with the Perl but hate the keyboard.

The 8310 has very good call quality (I'm with AT&T) and there are a lot of free things out there (ringtones, themes, etc). I like the ability to have a full mp3 for ringtone (I think this requires media card) and the Outlook contact sync. The BIS is very nice and it connects right to our non-Exchange email server with no issues. Almost every problem I have had with the phone went away once I started learning how to use it. Apps are all over the place and really enhance the BB experience.

I have unlimited data and 400 messages a month for about $35 - add taxes, fees, government crap...

I am not an expert, but I thought since I was new too, you would benefit from another newbie opinion.
