You could try clearing the calendar on the device (even though it's empty).
Connect your device, launch DM, go into backup/restore, select advanced. On the right side you should see the device databases. Highlight Calendar and click the clear button.
Try a sync again, see if it works. I don't know if it will, but it may be worth a shot.
