Do you have a BB data plan? Lowercase edge means the device is trying to connect to the BlackBerry Network. AIM is looking for BB data also.

To fix your problems, get a BB data plan from your carrier.

No, she doesn't. You will not get any letters in upper-case except for GSM without a BlackBerry data plan.

i just called tmobile to see if i can get the feature enabler add on. and he said i didnt need it bcus its only for older bb curves. and he told me the difference between uppercase/lowercase edge is the strength of your connection and that it depends on where you are located, but my sister always has uppercase edge. and the only plan we have is family unlimited texting.

I'm sorry, but you are totally, 100% wrong on all counts, and the person you spoke to was also wrong.

1. If you want a BlackBerry device to function properly, you need a BlackBerry data plan
2. Uppercase/lowercase has nothing to do with signal strength. It is an indication of whether your device can access the RIM infrastructure. You will only receive uppercase GPRS or EDGE if you have a BlackBerry data plan
3. Your sister DOES NOT have uppercase EDGE if she doesn't have a BlackBerry data plan

Default Uppercase or lowercase EDGE

I disagree. I just got off of the phone with T-Mobile customer support. They were making sure I had Wi-Fi on my 8320. I DO NOT have a data/Blackberry plan but after I set up my Wi-Fi and did a hard restart my edge changed to uppercase. Just to make sure they didn't upgrade me accidentally I tried connecting without Wi-Fi. No internet, maps or anything without Wi-Fi.
So, I have uppercase edge without a Blackberry plan. You can say I'm wrong all you want but unless you see my phone you cannot say that for a fact.

you may have capital 1X and "wifi" displayed if you are connected through a WIFI.
WIFI works as a alternate route to internet and you can use your device for internet based apps, but it will not let you use Blackberry mail boxes without a data plan.

You'll be billed on the WIFI network you connect to, cause the modem used to serve your request will use the bandwidth to which it is connected.

Chances are you have the BlackBerry Feature Enabler turned on. That changes edge to EDGE for some reason. Recently noticed this with my dad's phone (Pearl).

But you are wrong... Both my partner and I have 8120s, with no data plans, he has uppercase EDGE, and I have lowercase edge. He got his about 2 months ago, I got mine about 18 months ago.

We both use the same standard t-mobile theme.
