black berry curve 8320 wifi i have question about wifi on my BB curve 8320. is there anyway i can connected to internet using wifi signal without buy a plan "hot spot" or anyother plans? since i have wifi enabled phone, i want to use free internet web browsing using free wifi from home or local coffee shot that provide free wifi. and i do not have tmobile hot spot yet when i near the wifi router, my signal bar changed to UMA from Edge. is that nomal? do i get any extra charge since i don't have the plan? please help me on this. thanks in advance. |
All UMA is doing is using the wifi as if it were a cell tower. No extra charge if you made a call over it or text message. Same as if you were doing the same thing over EDGE. So if the call would use minutes on the cell network it would use minutes on UMA. It's like the difference between say GSM and EDGE. Just a different type of equipment, but same charge for the call. Oh yeah, on the wifi, there's a way to use it without a data plan. There's a theard in the wifi forum on it. http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...n-cant-do.html |
You can connect to any wifi network without having to purchase any data plan. If you have a router at home, you can connect to it and surf the web from your device. |
Thanks guys! but i was reading the forums and have another question... what's the difference with small case and lage case of uma and edge? i only get small case edge. if lager case UMA and EDGE are better how do i turn that on to lage case from small case? |
Anything lowercase means you don't have BIS (BlackBerry data plan). If you do, then everything is uppercase. |
ah ic. thanks a lot!! |
Just download mini opera to use internet without web2go |
but isn't opera can't play youtube? here is another question, when i'm on wifi UMA (when i had BB feature enabler my uma/edge changed to UMA/EDGE with out having any data plans) is MSN Live messenger or any type of instant message is free? or do i have to have text/mms thingy plans? my carrier is T mobile USA btw. |
Wirelessly posted Youtube will play with OS4.5. If Opera won't work you can easily use the BlackBeryy browser. As for IMs, I think it depends on I'm program -- some are data based (and may work on wifi), while others are text messaged based. In the case of the latter, you can still send IMs/text, it'll just be more expensive (you don't need a text plan in order to send and receive text). |
hm do you know any IMs program that can be used for free over wifi? |
Wirelessly posted I believe Jivetalk is data based. Its one of those all in one IM programs. |
sweet, so then when i'm on UMA/Wifi i can use jivetalk for free of charge? |
I'm not 100% certain as I don't use it. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this. |
Jivetalk can be used on data and wifi, not sms (txt) |
do you know where i can get the jivetalk for free? |
No. You have to pay for JiveTalk. |
And it's very worth the price tag. |
