Default using wifi on 8320

I am new to this BB 8320 curve. Recently I was traveling to Europe and tried using Wifi on the airport, but it just didn;t work. Every time I would turn on my mobile connection (Which means roaming), the wifi thing would start working. Otherwise it didn't worked.

Doesn't wifi work without the mobile connection? or if I turn on the mobile connection, it will use wifi and I wont be charged any roaming charges?

Does any one know about this?

WIFI trumps any other connection (as long as it is connected to a valid resource of course) but it also works with the mobile radio turned off.
when your radio was off, what happened with the WIFI... it didnt work is a good enough description

I am assuming you went to Manage Connections and checked the box on the left hand side of "Wifi". Was it able to connect to any Wifi network? If it were connected, then you should see the description of that network on the top of your home screen.
