Lightbulb Media Card Probs & ?'s

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I am running 4.2 and installed an 8 gig media card. Went to options/media card it said there was 7.3gigs available.I tried to install an animated theme that said it needed at least 4megs of memory to run. I tried to install it onto the curve 8310 using PocketMac and it went for an hour saying connected and I gave up then. Tried again and to no avail after an hour. Between installs the card asked to be reformatted so I did. Now when i check the available space it only has 3.3 gigs available and the theme is not installed. Any clues???
Thanks In Advance~

Media Card is Only for media, not applications/PIM information.

Applications such as themes can ONLY be installed on device memory, look in Options -> Status, what is you file free.

If it's less then 4MB pull the battery and look again.

There is a sticky at the top of the general forums to free up memory.

OS version 4.2.2 only supports up to 4GB media cards. You need to update your phone OS to version 4.5 in order to read the whole 8GB card.

What type and size Media Card can I use in my device? - BlackBerryFAQ

BlackBerry Device Software Media Card Size Limit

BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 -- Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 -- Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 -- Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 -- Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 -- Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and above -- Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 -- Up to 32 GB

Also, the device memory and the media card are two different things. What is your File Free? Go to Options > Status and read the third line. If your File Free gets lower than 12 000 000, you will experience problems.

And it's very likely that the animated theme requires phone OS version 4.5. If so, you will not be able to run it on 4.2.

Supposibly the latest version of 4.2.2 from VZW supported 8 GB, and OP states it sees an 8GB card correctly so thats cool.

He probably should upgrade to 4.5 but after he gets him memory under control.

The OP's profile indicates that he has an 8310 on AT&T.

You can download .jad themes and put them into the micro card, so when you explore it you install it from there. But remember, every .jad nees modules (.mod)

The themes will still get installed into device memory however.

Out of curiousity how do you get a hold of the .mod files?

(I thought I was still in 88xx series forum sorry Motorcycle Mama:( )
