Default Unlocked T-Mobile to AT&T

Please Login to Remove!

I purchased a BlackBerry 8310 in December. All was working well until my baby kitten spilled a cup of water on my phone. It finally died and I went to Ebay to purchase a new one. I ended up purchasing an unlocked BlackBerry 8320. The phone was originally T-Mobile and I'm having issues setting up my email as well as using the Google maps application and the Facebook application. I would also like to have the same options and system that I had with AT&T. I have searched the forum and can't seem to find anything converting a T-Mobile phone to an AT&T phone. Would anybody be willing to give me some simplified instructions?? Thanks!

We need more information. Exactly what problems are you having? Please be specific.

Also what options and system are you asking about?

Facebook is a known problem maker/causer (is that a real word?).

There's really not much to it:

1. Unlock the BB.
2. Insert SIM.
3. (Assuming you kept your BB data plan) Transfer your BIS account and/or go through Enterprise Activation if you're on BES.

We definitely need more details to help. What's indicated by your signal strength (GSM, gprs, GPRS, edge, EDGE)?

The biggest problem I am encountering is that I am unable to set my my Yahoo mail account. When I go through the setup wizard and it gets to the email page, my only options is to set up my email through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or skip this set. On my previous BB I was able to set up my personal email. The facebook application worked on my previous phone not three days ago. When I tried to log in it says I do not have a data package and to contact my service provider. The same occurs with Google Maps. I contacted AT&T and everything was in order on their end which made me think it had something to do with the settings of the phone. As far as options and system I'm just asking for the same settings I had with my previous phone that I mentioned above. Thanks again for any help you can provide!

Okay I have tried two different ways to set up email. Because the option is not available in the setup wizard, I created an account with the BIS service website for AT&T. I input my information and my email account is set up. I have no idea how to access this email on my phone? I used to have a separate envelope next to the text messaging box for personal email.

My signal strength indicates "edge".

It doesn't sound like you have a BlackBerry Data Plan set up on your account.

I am speaking with an AT&T representative right now and they are saying I do. The problem seems to be that my network is showing lowercase "edge" instead of uppercase "EDGE". Anyone know the madness behind this?

Uppercase EDGE means you are connected to the Blackberry service, lowercase means your not (same thing with gprs/GPRS). I'm having this problem right now with an 8310 on T-Mobile but my problem i suspect is different than yours.

Have you tried the following?

- Resending service books from the BIS site (where you created your email)?
- Gone to Options/Advanced Options/Host Routing Table, press the ball and clicked "Register Now?"
- Pulled the battery and reset your blackberry since you've talked to AT&T?
- Checked the APN settings (Options/Advanced Options/TCP) for your carrier?

Make sure (though I know you said AT&T already said your good) that you have BlackBerry service and not medianet or some unlimited internet on your account. Since you had a working blackberry on your account before though, it sounds like you do.

If your APN settings do not start with WAP@CINGULAR you'll need to google your TCP settings (since I can't post a link with having under 10 posts) and find the settings for AT&T and put them in that screen. If you google "WAP@CINGULAR" you should find what your looking for.

Good luck!

Please help me understand... Google Maps and Gmail are designed to run on several phone brands. Do Google Maps and Gmail require higher end data plans (beyond ATT's MediaNET) to run on other phone brands? I don't understand why the Blackberry Data plan is needed to use these.

Because it's how BlackBerry devices are designed.

Here are some details of what you can and can't do.

@Motorcycle Mama -

Thanks for pointing me to this FAQ! I learned that the Wi-Fi should work without the BB data plan.

About my question, the FAQ does not talk directly of GMail or Google Maps. However, my interpretation is that I should not need BB data plan to use these.
"With a generic data plan in addition you may:
* get email either via a web interface (using Opera) or other third party app, but NOT BlackBerry push email
*use a number of third party applications that require net access, including some instant messenger programs".

Unless... GMail & Google Maps require the resident browser. Maybe that's the issue?
