Default Brand new Curve - Blackberry Maps Icon? Where is it?

Please Login to Remove!

Okay, I just received a brand new Verizon Wireless Curve (8330).

The OS is the latest for Verizon 4.5 .77 (something like that). Blackberry maps is listed as an installed application. However, there is no icon for Blackberry maps. I set the screen to "show all" icons (so nothing is hidden).

Now, I have not activated the phone yet (I was told to do that tomorrow, as my billing cycle on my old plan ends tomorrw), but shouldn't the icon be there regardless? All other icons are there that should be there.

How do I get the Blackberry maps icon on there?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

You could try switching themes (Options > Themes) and it may be there. I am pretty sure when you activate the device, it will send the service book needed. If it doesn't show up when switching themes, the it should when you activate.

Not meaning to bring up a sore subject here, but doesn't Verizon block BB Maps in favor of it's home-grown BREW product?

I switched themes (and back again too) -- still not there.

I think the icon should be there (since it is an installed app). Anyone else ever see this.

No. I think they used to not allow GPS with bb maps (but now they do).

It won't show up until the BlackBerry Plan is activated for the device.

Correct. I found out that both the browser icon and the maps icon do not show up until not only are you activated, but you set up an email service.

All is now well.

That is not entirely true. When you setup your email account, it pushed the service books to your device. In doing so, it pushed the Browser and BBMaps service books as well.
