I need to push really hard for the trackball to work. What can I do to fix this?

Chances are your trackball is diry. Lint, dust, dust bunnies can all contribute to this. Use compressed air to blow it out, or press down on the trackball and try to roll the trackball around. This might dislodge whatever might have gotten trapped inside.

Nah it isn't my brother took it out and cleaned it. Any other ideas? like what would need to be replaced to fix this?

So you're saying cleaning it out didn't work? Are you having problem scrolling or just with pushing/clicking the trackball?

Hmm I wonder if it might be something with the little piece at the bottom of the trackball. Theres a thin strip of metal right below the trackball when you take it out. If you push down on the trackball after removing it from the phone you can see how its supposed to push down on that strip. Make sure that strip didn't get bent out of shape. Check the sticky at the top of the Curve forum on how to clean your trackball. It has pictures of what I'm talking about.

Can i replace that little piece at the bottom of the trackball?

Hmmm I dont know if you can replace just that piece. Probably might be easier to replace the whole trackball assembly (get a pearly white trackball again). I think it's ~$10 or less.

Well what i just did was i took the track ball out and pushed my pinky in directly on the board theres lik this copper square which i pushed where the button would push and i had to push it really hard for it to work..so it looks like thats where the problem is..how could i fix this?

Hmmmm I might be reaching the limits of my knowledge. Hope someone else will chime in.

Nah i doubt it..i bought it used from someone for 130 it was a really good deal i could live with it but id rather fix it if i can

I think the copper square is harder to fix, but at the same time it's usually something wrong with the trackball assembly rather than that copper piece.

Hi, just to chime in real fast, take that little broze piece of tape off using an exacto knife (very easy). As soon as that's off you will see a circular metal contact stuck on the tape, take your exacto, scrape it everywhere,put it back and voila! You are all set. If it doesn't work PM me and I can help you further.

i recently opened my Blackberry curve 8330, and track ball had very tiny parts to be cleaned.
I first assembled it wrong and it would go left with up and so on, i then re-arranged the magnetic rollers and it works like a new one.

Question: my trackball is not white, its either too dirty or it may be of pale yellowish in color, its only 6 months old and i don't remember if it was white when i purchased it, can the Ball be dipped into some solution for cleaning ??

Trackball is white when new. Through use and the natural oils on our thumbs, the trackball will become discolored. I think mine started around the 3-month period. I haven't found anything that works in terms of restoring the original color, but I use normal rubbing alcohol from time to time to get rid of the oils and grime.

I have seen replacement parts at http://cnn.cn at reasonably prices. N.B. Its NOT cnn.com the news network channel. In desperation today I soaked the ball in alcohol and gently shook it. Thank goodness it worked! For the past 3 months I had mastered the short cut keys to by pass the track ball.
