Arrow Unreliable alerts (alarm, emails, etc)

Please Login to Remove!

Recently my alarm has been silent (with only the written alarm note showing up on time) although I haven't changed the alarm settings!

Same thing is happening to my to-do and calender reminders.

As well as my email alerts.. (phone calls too, although with phone calls I can blame it sometimes on the network. When my phone takes the caller to my voice mail directly without ringing).

All of the above sound notifications are becoming unreliable. Sometimes they work and others they are silent. The only things that I haven't had problems with yet are the messenger, and text messages.

What's wrong with my bb???

Wirelessly posted (8320)

Assuming you've verified that this isn't a profile issue and you have memory available it sounds like either a software conflict or hardware problem. I'd backtrack and try removing the most recent apps you've installed one by one until the problem goes away. If that doesn't get you there you might try a wipe and reinstall.

Have you done a battery pull?

I had a similar issue with OS 4.2/4.3 where my alarm would not go off. battery pull fixed it.

haven't had the problem at since running OS 4.5

What OS are you running.

There have been known issues where certain versions of OS 4.5 would corrupt profile settings.

I had a similar problem... it didn't occur to me for a long time but after I would synch my address book, that is when ringtones, alarms seemed to get re-set. I never figured out a solution to the problem. After I upgraded the OS I could no longer sync with Outlook Express without screwing things up so I just quit entirely.

Next time you set everything up, try and note if the problems happens after you sync with Outlook... that might be a starting point. My own theory is that the Outlook Express database uses the entry where ringtone/alarm setting are stored for something else and ends up over-writing your preferences on the BB.

Up to someone else to prove though cause I just gave up on it.

I'm using OS 4.5.0.81.. What do you recommend that I use?

And I dont sync with Outlook.

The battery pull actually helped but I will keep it under observation... I still can't trust my alarm and profiles...

I'd go with the latest release, see the sticky at the top of this forum.

Latest OS: 8300 4.5.0.174/4.5.0.124 (English & East Asian)

ralsan2,
I got the same problem you have and running the same OS 4.5.0.81. I know it's not profile, because I don't mess with it. The alarm works great most of the time, but about once a week to 2 weeks, the alarm as well as other notifications (calendar reminders, text receive beep, etc..) don't work as well. I've done numerous battery pull, checked my available memory ("file free" is always over 5mb). The only thing different is that I changed the background picture, not the theme. I searched the crackberry forum as well and noticed a few reports of alarm issue, but none got resolved. I do not recall having any issue with it when I was running 4.2.

I'm going to try to load the latest release. If this doesn't work, I'm going back to 4.2. In the meantime, I'm going to try out myalarm as well.

Default Same problem, different OS

I downloaded the new 5.0 version of the BlackBerry Desktop Application earlier this week and thought I'd do a backup and try to do some syncs as I'd not done that in a long while...and I *did* try and sync with Outlook, though it failed for some reason I can't recall that I didn't feel like bothering to try and follow through on to investigate.

Suddenly the last two mornings, my alarm is silent and my alerts are unreliable, just as the original poster experienced.

My Bold is running OS 4.6.0.247 (Platform 4.0.0.206).

Try not to hijack a thread.. I would stop using Desktop Manager 5.0 their are known issue's with it not backing up a BB properly. But I doubt that would effect your Alarm issue.
