This build seems a little more snappier when navigating though the device. No problems whatsoever with contacts. When my today theme first comes on after the upgrade I see no calendar events. I install another theme and they show up. I then install the theme that was missing the calander events and the show up no problem. Good luck to those having problems!

I wish I could install it, but I have tried at least 5 times and it is still a no go. Doesn't matter, guess when the time comes, I will just sell it with 138...

Yep, same calendar issue here. 0 of 890 items restored during os load. BES activation and sync fixed it for me.

Anyone else notice a problem with .160 that while on the phone, every minute or 2, there is a quick high pitched noise comming out of the earpiece?

That seems to be a pretty common issue with this OS.

I've already downgraded back to .77, this OS is too buggy.

So the dreaded delay when waking up is still there, if you use the trackball to wake it, but the loudspeaker and slight delay on answer seems to be gone now. Why can't they fix that stupid wake-up via the trackball thing? It took me weeks to get used to using the space bar to wake it up, then I downgraded to 4.3 now back to 4.5...and having to use the space bar again...geez...seems they break more than they fix on upgrades.

Same issue as others with the calendar, but the BES dealt with that easily. Don't have the high pitched whining though as others have complained about.

Yea, installed this and it did restore some of my old preferences... I manually restored it and everything was ok.

Definitely do a manual backup before running this upgrade

I just downloaded the release but I think I'm going to hold off until I read more information about the release. I firmly believe that 4.5.0.138 has been the most stable, snappiest OS release I've put on my device (and I try them all). So, until someone can convince me otherwise - I'll stick with it. I'll say it again, like I always do: Why are change logs not provided with each release?

.138 has been the best release so far, and why are there no release notes with these???

Only difference I noticed after the update is while listening to music through my earphones and lowering down the volumn, the very next track the volumn will go back up and i have to keep lowering down the volumn through each track.

I installed it this morning. So far, everything is great. I did have the issue with the calendar not syncing. After the BES activation, I simply re-sent the service books to my device and the calendar synced up.

That might be fixable by creating a hybrid OS using the radio from another OS in .160.

This also can be used to fix frequent drops in data connection with a new build (particularly a leaked beta build) this solution will help you use the new java components but keep your radio from your old, stable code.

1. Locate and Download the OS on your machine that caused your device to have good reception
2. Locate and Download the OS on your machine that you want to use, but has the data connectivity issues
3. Install both sets of software on your machine to the default location
4. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files and locate the two different OS installations.
5. Open the folder that contains the good radio code
6. Go to the GSM/UMTS/CDMA folder (your OS package will have one of those folder names) NOT the Java folder
7. Right click and Copy the only file located there.
8. Go back to the other OS installation directory and locate the same folder (GSM/UMTS/CDMA) and paste the copied file.
9. It should ask you to overwrite the current file, Click YES
10. If it does not ask you, simply delete the file that was already in the directory, and paste the new file in
11. Go to either Loader.exe under :\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader or run Desktop Manager.
12. Update your OS as normal. You will notice that it might say "downgrade" in certain sections for the core OS. This is due to the radio code and should be ignored.
13. Enjoy your new hybrid OS.

I'm still considering whether or not to upgrade from my stable 4.5.0.131 OS. The only thing that is making me consider upgrading is that .131 took away the ability to just hold down the Send button on the home screen to get to the Address Book. Now it just goes to the Call Log, where before .131 a quick push would go to Call Log screen and holding down would take you to Address Book. It seems pretty trivial, but it was a feature that I used and liked and now it's gone! Did anyone have this problem also and did it get fixed in the newer release?

I've gone through with the update and it is running very well. A little quicker than .131 version but it still has the same issue with not bringing up the address book when you hold down the Send button when you are on the home screen. Otherwise, it's been a good upgrade due to the speed alone.

I wasn't even aware of that shortcut. Thanks for the tip!

After hearing of the audio issues, I'll definitely hold off on this release. .138 for now!

Trying this now. That high pitched chirp is too much to handle. I'm on the phone well over 2000 minutes per month, so no way I could get used to this.

Default Finally, a stable release - 06-03-2009, 03:28 PM

It's about time RIM finally coughed up a stable 4.5x release. I can confirm that the call timer is back, the speakerphone blast is totally gone (in the past couple 4.5x release it was just a ms blast), and the delay in answering the phone from the past couple releases is also gone. I've not run into the audio chirps.

I've finally found a 4.5x release that I will keep. About time!

As suggested above, I pulled the cdma file from .119 into this .160 and chirp is gone, timer is still there. Best (hybrid) OS yet.

I spoke too soon. I am getting the annoying audio beeps/quirps during a call. I've said it before, I'll say it again...RIM needs to get their QA process together. You can't break more than you fix/enhance, and this is consistently the case with RIM. Back to 4.3 for now, and maybe to the Palm Pre later this year!

Why would anyone go back to 4.3? Several good 4.5 builds, including .77, .119. This .160 is the best yet after pulling in the cdma file from .119.

Success.
None of the issues spoken of here. In fact, this is the first upgrade I've done in a while where I didn't have to delete the internet browsing service book and battery pull to get it back.

No chirp or anything. No issues at all. Very satisfied.

Depends on your definition of "good" I guess. I pulled the CDMA file from .119 and the problem with it is the delay on the phone screen when answering call. You hit green button to answer, but screen doesn't update for a second or two. Makes it hard for me to tell when the call has actually been answered. Minor things, I know, but I still find the QA process on these OS builds to be random if not completely lacking altogether.

I seem to lose my data connection more often with this build... No data goes threw my BB and I can not place calls... forcing me to reboot. My BB still shows a 1XEV connection with 3 bars...

Anyone else seen this?

I've also re-activated my phone on VZW by dialing *228... so one of the 2 are messing with my phone :(

There was/may still be a Verizon data outage today. That could be related to your issue today.

The .138 release was Telus.

I am on .160 and I haven't had any issues. I did lose the call timer with .138. Other than that it was solid. .131 was solid with the call timer.

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
When you take things for granted, the things you are granted, get taken.

Wirelessly posted

I never liked 131 or 138 much, so I went back to 119 each time, until this 160 came out. Used a hybrid with the 119 cdma file. Best OS so far imho.
