I'll be traveling in England for a week prior to a cruise, and I've checked with Verizon on available services. From what I understand, my Curve won't work at all in England, but once onboard the ship I will have voice (at $2.49 a minute) and text capabilities (at $0.50 per address sent and $0.05 per message received) via the shipboard system, but only when the ship is not in port.

Meanwhile, a friend in the UK tells me that I might be able to rent a SIM card while I am there. Does the Curve even have a SIM card? If so, can it be changed while I am traveling?

Your curve does not have a sim and uses CDMA only.

It would be cheaper if you buy a temp. connection for your UK travel from your originating country.

We have no CDMA networks here in the UK,we are GSM only so your 8330 won't work here at all.If you can cope with just phone and sms while your here pre pay handsets can be bought new for as little as 10 (approx $15)

Thanks for the suggestion, woodyuk. Sounds like a cheap prepaid is the way to go. We'll be landing in Manchester on a Saturday afternoon and heading for the Lake District sometime on Monday. Any suggestions on what type of shop to look for in Manchester to buy a prepaid?

They should be all over the place (at least they are in London). Have fun!
