Default Desktop Manager Connection

A newbie, so please be patient.
I installed the desktop manager and plugged in my BB curve and before I could even turn it on it connected to desktop and started looking for updates. Is it suppose to connect without even being turned on?

Yup. If you don't want to connect it then don't connect it.
