I sent my wife the ota link to BBM 5.0, and she downloaded it. Well, it never showed up, just in the application list. So she deleted it. I tried it again last night via DM, and I got the same thing. So I downloaded 4.5.0.77 directly from Verizon, and installed it on the laptop. Opened the BB again in DM, and loaded the regular version, I think 4.5? OK, so it loads, but still will not show up on her phone. It is in the app list, but not on the phone. I double checked to make sure nothing was hidden. I cannot find it.

I am open to any and all help on this. Do I need to use JL to wipe the phone and start fresh? I am looking for any way possible to not have to do this. I don't care if it is 5.0 or 4.5, she just wants BBM back on her phone, and I want to be able to sleep at night not having to worry if she will knife me at 2 am.

I thought I read somewhere that BBM 5.0 needs at least 4.5.0.131 to show up on an 8330. I could be wrong.... I removed it since I had so many problems with it on my 8330.

If you want it back delete the application from the device (Options -> Adv. Options -> Applications) then run loader.exe and you should get the option to reinstall it (might have to check the box to install it).

Might also want to do a full backup first, too, so you have her list of contacts that you can restore once it's back on the device.

I did what you mentioned already, and it still will not show up. I wasn't aware of any limit on an OS, I think my friend on USCC is on the same version of 4.5 as my wife. I will have to check.

Did you install the OS on the PC and delete the vendor.xml file?

You must have 4.5.0.131 or higher as your OS or the new BlackBerry messenger will not work. If you have installed it on a OS lower than that then it won't work or show up.

Upgrade OS, then install BlackBerry messenger 5.

I didn't think I needed to, it's the OS that is on her phone, and we are on Verizon.

OK, so it won't work on her OS. She doesn't want an upgrade, she likes it how it is. How do I get the original BBM back onto her phone?

You will have to download the OS version that's currently on her phone, connect the device to the pc, use dm and select the update software option and then uncheck the new BlackBerry messenger, reboot the device, then add back the version you downloaded through dm.

Ok, she has 4.5.0.77 on there, which I downloaded directly from Verizon's site. I just need to click update software, and go from there? I hope this works. Thanks!!

Just to add that you can get the old BBM back via OTA

Make sure you delete the old BBM from your apps list first. Let your phone reboot and then click the link and download.



You will lose all yourxcontacts so I would suggest backing up your phone and your BBM contacts first.
