I have been backing up my 8310 just about every week, and believing that I was saving those backups on my computer. However, tonight, after making a backup prior to doing it, I upgraded to the newest OS.

It installed fine, but when I went to restore my backup, it was GONE.

Now, I have no more backups from 2009 whatsoever. I have all the ones from 2008, but somehow all the 2009 ones have disappeared. This is not good.

I tried searching my computer for the files, but there's no sight of them. Now, it's possible that all this time I haven't been actually saving these backups but I'm not sure how I would have done that. When I would backup it would go through the whole process and take several minutes. Theoretically SOMETHING happened. I remember saving the file as 7-23-09 but now, POOF, it's gone.

Again, not good.

Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? Am I an idiot? Did I do something wrong in installing and accidentally shoot myself in the foot?

Did you check your Recycle Bin?

I did, but there was nothing in there...(besides the vendor.xml file...)

Someone else might have recommendations, but you might need to look at getting some file recovery software, something like these:

If you do that, be sure to do some research before you download and install something to make sure the company/vendor is reputable.

Also be sure to check that you have hidden files and folders enabled. It's possible you might have saved them to a folder that's hidden by default.

have you ever heard of that though, where the new OS somehow deletes the backup files?

that doesn't make sense right?

Because I did the exact same thing I normally did to see if I was doing something wrong. And it backed up the entire thing no problem.

I don't recall hearing of that myself, but you could try the forum search and Google search to see what comes up.

Try doing a general search for .ipd files and I mean everywhere on the computer, not the ones Windows wants to do by default.

You search for all .ipd files by searching for *.ipd .

Did you install a new version of DM around the start of the year? Perhaps you then saved to a different folder. Otherwise the only way I've seen the files disappear is to set the data folder in DM to the folder with the data. That completely wipes out whatever is already in that folder. Not sure about the new versions, but prior versions did that.

i did that, and none of the 2009 files showed up.

I did update my DM software, probably around january. But I didnt set anything or do anything that I know of... Arg! what have i done!
