Default Issues installing RIM s/w on Vista x64

Please Login to Remove!

I've tried several downloads (DM, drivers and OS) and installation orders. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 on a Dell Dimension 9100, dual core, 4G memory. My carrier is AT&T. I'm (trying) to connect my 8130 through a USB port. The state I'm now in has no RIM s/w showing as installed in the Programs and Features (formerly "Add/Remove Programs). I've never seen my phone recognized under Control Panel --> Systems - the USB connections.

When I check Options --> About on the phone, I see a line "v4.2.2.170 Platform".

I'd really appreciate a set of specific instructions on how to get configured so my Vista machine can see my 8130 on a USB port, can update the OS on the 8130 and can use the DM. I just can not be the only BB/AT&T/Vista x64 customer on the planet.

Thanks in advance for steering me in the right direction.
