Default Mass storage

What is this and what does it do?

I've just got a blackberry curve today and every now and again it's asked me if I want to turn mass storage on-but some media files won't be used or something?

I have a 4gb memory card in-is it to do with this?

Mass Storage Mode is what allows you to use your BlackBerry device's microSD card as a typical "USB Storage Device" when attached to your computer via USB cable.

Depends if you need to transfer files from your Computer to the Media card on your BlackBerry then turn it on.

When the BlackBerry is connected to a computer, the Media Card can only be accessed by the device OR the computer but not BOTH at the same time.

When the device is in Mass Storage Mode, the Media Card is accessible by the COMPUTER.

When the device is NOT in Mass Storage Mode, the Media Card is accessible to the DEVICE.

Define "better". If you want to access the Media Card on the PC it's better to have it on. It's not a one-answer-fits-all-situations thing.
