Default How to save on data plan?

Please Login to Remove!

hello Friends,

I just bought a BB8310 Curve and use my carrier Vodafone India for the data plan. My significant worry is on the costs related to the data plan. The charges range to around 4$ for 1mb of data transfer.

My question:
Does the emails which come to the phone consume lot of bandwidth or thats not counted towards the plan?

Also how to save on the data transfer if I am already in the office checking mails? makes no sense paying for the bandwidth if I am already checking mails.

Any other tips on saving costs related to the data transfer would be really appreciated?

Any help from you would be truly appreciated.

Regards
Mahesh

Unless you have a BB data plan you wont get email to the device.
By the sounds of it, your paying for a generic data plan as you use it.

If you use a POP3 email account, and you dont have "leave messages on server" checked in whichever email client you use; the emails will be downloaded into the email client, off the server, so when BIS polls for emails, there wont be any, so wont push them to your BB.

They do count but they won't add up to much unless you're receiving a LOT of email or HTML mail. Text doesn't use much.

There's really no good way to manage email delivery. The BB is a push device designed for continuous email delivery. If you have POP accounts integrated with BIS you can use the method that Midnightraven mentions above. Otherwise, you'd need to change the default filter for each account to stop/start email delivery. It's a real hassle and it's very easy to forget to toggle.

If Vodafone.in is up to date it sounds like you don't have the correct data plan. BBProsumer is either unlimited or includes only 500KB (15p/KB after that).
