Just got a company issued 8310 from work and was wondering about a few things. First; is it possible to lock the keypad from input. I know it can be pass protected so that you have to enter password to use, but the problem with this, is when its in my pocket it will some times fumble around and enter the wrong password. Normally wouldn't be a problem except company policy set it up to completly erase the phone if more then 10 password failures. I pulled it out of my pocket and was at 5!!! Question 2: My BB is out of date, so I hooked it up to the desktop software, and it wants to update the os. If i do that will I loose all of the connection info for BES, or is there a way to back that up. I saw the back up feature with the desktop software but assumed that was only to back up data.

Question 1 = You can press ALT+Enter. That should lock the keypad from input. But if you press a key, the screen will still light up. I'd probably just put the device in standby mode (press the mute key on top of the device). In standby, no keypad press, screen doesn't come on, emails/calls/texts will still come in as normal.

Question 2 = I'm going to let someone with more experience field this one. I don't have experience with BES.

If you are on BES, then I would not recommend updating anything until you talk to your BES Admin. An OS upgrade will most likely require reactivation on BES. Plus there may be an IT Policy in place from your company to stop you from doing certain things with the BB. IMHO, if it is their device and they are paying the freight, then don't mess with it. If the company wanted the new OS in it, they would have done the upgrade before giving it to you - IMHO.

Thanks a million didn't know about the standby. As for BES, I just got the new IT admin possition, so I will be doing all that anyways.

Replace "most likely" with definitely. You always have to reactivate after an OS upgrade.

I have tried several things new sim card, upgraded OS, wiped settings from options section of blackberry...I am attempting to reset factory settings by using JL_command application, but is having some problems using it....I need a little help on this one...Thanks

Please do not hijack a thread.

You need to start a new one with your question.

I also recommend using the search function to find a solution.
