When entering the password on the device, do you press the Alt key? If not, the password is actually ccrc, not 9939.

I hope you have a backup of your data that you can restore.

Unless you manually copied them to the SIM card, they aren't stored there.
BlackBerry devices do not store contacts on the device SIM by default.
They're stored in device memory, which has now been wiped.

I hope you have a recent backup to restore from... or can re-sync from Outlook or something like it.

Are your contacts on your SIM? Did you copy them there?

To help prevent another wipe, make sure you are not using the ten key with the number lock on when you enter the password. Also, once you enter it a second time and it denies what you know to be a correct password....STOP...check all the cap locks, number locks, etc on both devices before trying again. BTW...It only gives you 3 wrong attempts when connecting to a computer?? I thought it was 10 like the device itself.

It may also be worth backing up the device... a) in case this happens again and b) if the device gets lost/stolen you'll lose your SIM too and you won't be able to restore the contacts again.

ALWAYS regularly backup and/or sync. It's very easy to lose/break mobile devices.
